PostSubject: Janette Oke's books   Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:39 am

I know we've discussed the "Love Comes Softly" series before, but I didn't see a separate topic for it in this section. A few weeks ago I was at Wal-Mart and since I wanted something new to read, I was looking through the paperbacks and I was thrilled to find the first four books of the series, by Janette Oke. So, I purchased the first 2 and over the last few weeks I've been reading "Love Comes Softly". It was really a great book, I just finished it last night and am now onto "Love's Enduring Promise". I loved how the first book spoke a lot about God's love and trusting in Him, it was really refreshing and with everything going on lately, I feel like I came across the book at the right time. If you've read these books, what did you think? I might search for some others on eBay or Amazon, since WalMart only had the first 4. Next time I'm there, I'm going to buy books 3 and 4. I was reading online about the differences between the books vs. the movies, which I've noticed since I saw the first movie, but, as with Little House, I find that I enjoy both versions of the story. In fact, it seems like this series has some things in common with Little House - the time period, love of God, love of family. I think the Grahams or possibly another family, I can't remember at the moment, have daughters named Laura and Nellie. I was wondering if maybe Ms. Oke was a fan of the Little House books and wrote that knowingly. Does anyone know anything about her? I'm glad to have found another great book series to get into. Thumbsup

Thanks Jacob :) I was looking a little bit on eBay earlier, I think I'm going to have to search some more to find more of the books.

Christina, I have been a fan of these books since I discovered them back in High School. (Not much homework got done after I did...!) I now have in my collection about 17 of her books. I have also written to Mrs. Oke, and she was kind enough to write back. She thanked me for being such a dedicated reader and told of all the books she has co-written with T. Davis Bunn and her daughter Laurel.
That was in 2004. I'm not certain if she's had any books since, but she certainly has left a great bundle of good reading.
Keep reading.... I wish I could discover these all over again for the first time. They are such a treasure.

Thanks for the info, Gin Thumbsup I'm really enjoying "Love's Enduring Promise", which I'm trying to read now before school stuff. That will be one other benefit of graduating this year - I'll have more time for *fun* reading! ROTFL

I own the first four movies, and really liked the first 3. I didn't like the 4th as well, and when we sign up on netflix, I think we'll get the 5th. Someone told me the first ones are more like the books than the later ones. Is that true?
That's neat that you found the books @ wal-mart. I'll have to look next time I'm there and see if ours have them!

Just finished reading the fourth book yesterday! I totally love them. I think I'm going to try to order the rest of the series online.
