I'm reading it for english class right now. has anyone else ever read it? I'm enjoying it so far, I'm a little more than halfway through the book right now. my english teacher was glad to hear me say I'm enjoying the book!

One of my all-time favorite books! The movie is great, too. I remember doing a book report on Mockingbird in 9th grade English class.

It's interesting that Harper Lee never published anything else except that one novel. :think:

I just checked her Wiki entry, and it said she had one unfinished novel and one unfinished nonfiction book about an Alabama serial killer.

my english teacher said the character "Scout" is based off of Harper Lee as Harper was as a child. does anyone know if that is true?

Yes, I believe Harper based Scout on herself. And the character of Dill was based on the novelist Truman Capote, who was Harper's real-life playmate as a child.

You'll understand the meaning of the title when you get to the last few pages of the book.

I love this book...and I love the film! It is a powerful story with wonderfully rich characters.

Yes, Scout is based loosely on Harper Lee. The character of Dill was based on author Truman Capote (author of In Cold Blood), who was a childhood friend of Harper Lee.

It's a story about a lawyer named Atticus Finch, who lives in a small Alabama town in the 1930s. He defends a black man who's been wrongly accused of assaulting a white woman.

The story is told through the eyes of Atticus's young daughter, Scout. There's also a mystery about a guy named Boo Radley who lives in their neighborhood. He stays in his house and nobody ever sees him, and there are all kinds of stories about him being crazy or a monster. Scout, her brother Jem, and their friend Dill become obsessed with getting Boo to come out.

It's a wonderful story. And if you get a chance to see the movie, it's really good, too!

I'm on chapter 26 right now. I just found out which character dies in the story. I could not believe who it was! but it's still a really good book!

I bought a copy of this book for my dad for Christmas. After he reads it, I may read it again! I do that alot if I enjoy a book enough!

I also love to re-read my favorite books. Some people think it's weird, but to me it's no different than watching a favorite movie more than once. I bet I've read Mockingbird half a dozen times in my life.

I was looking on IMDB for the movie and didn't realize they had re-made it in 1997. Has anyone seen the newer version?

Interestingly enough, anyone that watches "Guiding Light" the actress that played "Scout" in the remake is Joie (Lenz) Galeotti, played (those that have watched GL for awhile know this info. and no, I'm not making it up!) "Clone Reva" and then again was brought back later to play "Michelle Bauer Santos."

Oh wow, I didn't know there had been a remake. Wonder how I missed that. I'll have to look for it on Netflix...
