I just finished reading "Big Fish". It was a wonderful book and i recommend it.

Is that the one about the old man who's dying, and his son is trying to sort through all the tall tales his father told?

Yep! That's the one! The movie is great too.

I'm reading The Messiah Code by Michael Cordy, an English author born in Africa. Pretty good book.

No, though I thought that it would be at first too. It's about a doctor looking for the DNA of Christ to make a miracle cure, and the people trying to stop him. Fiction of course, but still a good book.

I just finished "Everyone Worth Knowing" by Laura Weisenberg, the author of "The Devil Wears Prada". It was very entertaining. Now I've started "Monkey Love" by Brenda Scott Royce which is hilarious! I'm only on the seventh chapter but I can't remember laughing so hard from a book before. Thumbsup

I love to read really old books.
Right now I'm reading a book called
The Harvester by Gene Stratton Porter.
I read it before- about 15 years ago.
I like to read books over again that I haven't read
in a long time.
Some parts I will remember and others
I won't remember until it happens and some parts I think,
"why don't I remember this?!"
Must have been too sleepy the first time!

There have been 2 movies made about
other books that Gene Stratton Porter wrote.
Maybe you have seen them?

The Girl of The Limberlost
and
Freckles

Her books always had nature at the core.

Holly

I love Gene Stratton Porter's books! I liked the movies, too. But the books, I absolutely love.

Oh, I am so glad to hear that Savannah!
Her books are not well known.
Not only does her love of nature come
through so beautifully but she has such
imaginative story lines!
The Harvester plot is incredible!

Have you read any other old authors?
Grace Livingston Hill? Or Graces' niece Isabela Alden aka Pansy?
How about Catherine Marshall's Christy?
What a writer!

I see you like the story of Felicity and Gus...
I only saw the early episode
with them (the kiss in the barn)
I'm glad to see they continued on
and were married- correct?
I never have forgot his "picking the pus"
out of his toes, though! Ack!

I didn't know that Isabella Alden was Grace Livingston Hill's niece! I thoroughly enjoy her books. I found one at a yard sale a while back, and just loved it. Christy was an excellent book, too. I haven't read it in years, but it was very powerful.

I haven't read "The Harvester".........I'll have to see if I can find a copy! Have you read the book "Just David" by Eleanor Porter? That's another really good book!

LOL . . . Gus Pike.......Yes, he improved greatly through the seasons. One of my friends, years ago, couldn't understand why I was so upset when Gus died. I was heartbroken!! But she'd only seen that first "toe picking" episode. I'd seen him grow into a wonderful character. Then, I loaned her my Avonlea tapes, and she fell just as much in love with the characters as I was......though, I wished that they'd have made Felicity a little less full of herself. I always thought that there was no way that someone like Alec or Janet would allow their daughter to grow to be so self absorbed.
