| Unfortunately the only reading I've been able to do is college textbooks. Not exactly exciting reading, lol.
I loved reading On the Banks of Plum Creek. Actually, I've enjoyed reading them all! _________________

| I just finished The Long Winter and wrote a book review on it for the contest at Prairie Talk. I have also been reading The Ghost in the Little House by William Holtz, which is a biography of Rose Wilder Lane.

I read Goober in a Nutshell, The Way Back to Mayberry: Lessons from a Simpler Time, and Memories of Mayberry. I've been looking for a couple of books, but haven't been able to find them. Mayberry 101: Behind the Scenes of a TV Classic is one of them. I can't remember the other title I was looking for. It may be Mayberry Memories - which sounds really similar to one that I just finished reading. A friend is going to loan me a copy of Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook. Sounds like fun. (Though, if there's a pickle recipe in that book, I'm NOT going to give it a try. I've never been all that fond of kerosene.) _________________

The only TAGS book I've read is Richard Kelly's The Andy Griffith Show. It includes two scripts. One is The Sermon for Today, where they try to put on the band concert. And the other is of an episode that was never filmed. It's about a wandering minstrel who comes to Mayberry and tries to settle down. The book also includes a synopsis of every episode.
Speaking of Aunt Bee's kerosene cucumbers... do you ever find yourself craving pickles after seeing that ep? Happens to me every time! |

Is that the one about the old man who's dying, and his son is trying to sort through all the tall tales his father told? |

That sounds like an interesting book! It would be fun to "watch" a new episode of TAGS. And a synopsis of *every* episode! Wow! I have a book that has a synopsis of every episode of the old Zorro series starring Guy Williams - but that only ran for about 80 episodes. The book you have must be pretty thick!
Goober in a Nutshell couldn't keep my attention. Maybe it's because Goober wasn't actually one of my favorite characters. ( ) He was okay......it's probably that I watch a LOT of the first few seasons, and he isn't there yet. At any rate....it wasn't a gripping read. The Way Back to Mayberry was kind of a devotional book that related life-lessons to storylines used in The Andy Griffith Show. It was interesting. One of the episodes that they used was A Date for Gomer, and how he saw beyond Mary Grace's physical appearance, and enjoyed her company for who she was. That is one of my favorite Gomer episodes. He's just so sweet and considerate. I always wished that they'd have brought Mary Grace back for more episodes. But I'm rambling now...........

I love pickles . . . . so every time I watch that, and hear Andy crunching one of Clara's delicious pickles......and see the bunch of them eating all of those pickles, I always want a pickle! (But not one of Aunt Bee's! ) _________________

For a long time I didn`t either until I found this one at a used book sale.
I`m now reading a Sabrina the Teenage Witch tie-in book I won at Yahoo! Auctions.
Where do those of you who read them get the TAGS books? If I could find some I`m sure I would love reading them as much as the rest of you _________________

Brenda, I got Richard Kelly's The Andy Griffith Show at a bookstore here in northern Michigan. That was probably about 15 years ago, so I'm not sure if it's still in print. |

The funny thing is, no one can seem to remember why they didn't film that ep. Andy is quoted as saying that he loved it, but they they just never used it "for some reason." The author theorizes that it might be because this show kind of goes against the normal formula. In this one, Andy himself brings about the conflict when he tries to get the wandering minstrel guy to settle down in Mayberry. Normally it's others who cause the conflict, and Andy has to make things right.

Actually, it's not. Each synopsis is only a paragraph or two, so that section doesn't take up all that much room.
I loved watching that Zorro show when I was a kid. Guy Williams was one of my heroes. He was also on Lost in Space, another of my childhood favorites.

That's probably my favorite Gomer episode too. I love it when Gomer runs out right after he meets Mary Grace, and they all think it's because of the way she looks. But it turns out he just went to buy her a corsage (or should I say "cor-sage"), because he saw the other girls had them and he wanted her to have one, too.
And of course it's an especially funny ep because we get to see Gomer dancing. They really should put Jim Nabors on Dancing With the Stars. |
