When you are at the library or bookstore, what is it about a book that attracts you to it? Is it the cover? The summary of the story? The author who wrote it?
=========
At first I would always look at the covers... it is what attracted me the most... but I quickly learned... "Don't Judge a Book By It's Cover". It goes both ways... lol So what I mainly do now is read the summary but often I find myself looking for a book with a good summary and a good cover
What about you guys? _________________

| This is why a good book cover is so important. It's the first impression a reader gets of a book. If they like the cover, then they might flip it over and read the back, and oftentimes read at least the first paragraph to see if they will borrow it or buy it. Most of my clients have great book covers, but one of them was so bad and the book was so good that I felt sorry, because I knew the cover probably cost him some sales. _________________ All my life, I wanted to be like you - Laura to Ma in The Last Farewell

| I actually like books without covers and I tend to buy them over books that do. I like the solid colors and the title in a nice font. It's just me... I love it when the first page of the book has a little preview or summary and that usually gets me.

| I do love a good cover. It can tell a story all in itself. BUT, I hate it when the cover doesn't accurately reflect the story, or faithfully represent the characters. The artist should know the story well enough that if he/she is drawing the main characters, the final cover should reflect those characters well. I used to hate reading a book, and hearing the author describe the main character as having . . . . . oh......say.........long, red hair - Then on the cover of the book, the main character had short blonde hair. That's just annoying to me. But a good cover can draw a person's attention from across the room, even.
Having said that, though..........the cover isn't the only thing that draws me to a book, of course. It catches the eye, but the book has to have an interesting storyline. And, I prefer an author who can spin a riveting tale without having to stoop to profanity. _________________

| The title is what catches me first, then I'll look at the back, and flip though it. Most of the time I get my books online, though, and other people I know already have the book and have told me a little about it! _________________

Same here, Savannah! It's one of my pet peeves!
What atracts me to a book is the subject. Historical fiction and the classics are about all I read. |

| I tend to only skim the backs because I don't like the whole story to be given away! I like surprises. I will often bring home a stack of books from the library and by the time I get to each one, I will have forgotten what it said on the back. I like it that way. _________________

| Usually the title and/or cover catches my attention, then I read the summary, maybe flip through the book a bit. The book I'm reading now is by Therese Fowler, and in a review, it compared her writing style to Jodi Piccoult and Nicholas Sparks, two of my other favorites, so that caught my attention a bit more so. _________________

| | Title or cover will catch my attention first. Then I will check out the summary of what the book is about. If it sound like something I would read ok and if not well back it would go. At this point what I like are the ones by the author of the book Wicked. I read that a few years ago and saw his other ones were all about fairy tale type characters so I wanted to read the others as well. I have read 2 of the books at this point but will continue until I read them all and then will find something else. LOL |

| The cover, the title but mainly the summary of the story on the back. _________________
