| “A MATTER OF FAITH”
Charles and his girls go on a trip, while Caroline stays home. Just before they leave, she gets a scratch on her leg by a rusty nail. At first, everything seems OK. However, as time progresses, she gets weaker and weaker. She has to burn out the infection from the scratch on her own. She recovers thanks to Doc Baker's help.
Great episode, full of so much emotion. I gotta say, what happened to Caroline was really scary, her infection got really bad and I don’t know… it took a lot of guts to take out the infection yourself with a knife! _________________

| I like this one. I like the way Charles takes off to her 'rescue' even though he's not sure if somethings wrong or not. _________________

| This is a wonderful episode and I look at it a little differently than you Carol..........I don't see Caroline cuting the infection out.....I see her reading the Bible telling her "if a body part offends her, cut it off", I honestly believe Caroline was going to cut her leg off to save her life.......She had done all she could and knew the infection was going to keep moving up her leg and eventually to her heart and kill her.......She was so sick from the infection, that as soon as she cut into the leg, she passed out......saving her from cutting the whole thing off.......Just my thoughts on this....... _________________

| hmm...I always thought see was just cutting it back open, like they do in "Love's enduring promise," if you've ever seen it. I just took it was it gave her the idea, but I could be wrong! Guess we'll never know........ _________________

| Hmm.... that way I saw was that by reading that bible text... I guess she concentrated on cutting off something that bothers you... I don't think she had the intention of cutting her leg off... I think I remember Doc Baker saying how Caroline did something to cut the infection just in the nick of time... and he and Reverend realized God had guided Caroline to cut out the infection just at the right time... after that, the pain was too much to bear and made her faint... _________________

| I guess the reason I saw it as Caroline getting ready to cut the leg off just below the knee, is because she put a tourniquet on her leg and tightened it up as much as she could.......if she was just going to drain the infection, there wouldn't be any use for the tourniquet or that HUGE knife she had, she could've used one of her sewing needles to drain it. As she happened to start the cut to possibly take off the leg, she collapsed and the infection drained at that time....She wasn't in her right mind from the infection anyway, and she kept reading from the Bible to cut it off...... _________________

| That's how I took it when I saw the episode. But then, I can tend to be rather literal. I haven't seen the episode in a long time, but it seems to me that just opening the wound wouldn't have caused Caroline to be as afraid as she was. I know it would hurt a lot - but I really don't think that just opening the wound would have made her act the way she did just as she took the knife to her leg. I think she was delirious, and really was planning on cutting off her leg, but passed out before it got that far. Having a high fever, and a LOT of infection can do strange things to a person's mind. _________________

| PS This episode REALLY scared me when I was a little girl! It was very frightening to me as a little girl, to see an adult so afraid, especially Ma. And I hadn't read any of the books or seen the rest of the series, even though I was watching re-runs - so I wasn't sure she was going to live. I remember very vividly being VERY frightened by this episode. But it was extremely well done. _________________

| I gotta watch the end of the episode again ... I just remembered the scene in "Love's Enduring Promise" when that boy asks for a big knife because he's going to take the infection of Missi's Pa's leg....
The camera effects were pretty good on this episode and it really makes you look through the eyes of Caroline and feel scared
I remember one scene when it's raining and there is loud thunder... the camera is moving all around the house and makes the little house look so big and empty and scary... _________________

| The worst parts were when camera showed all the objects inside the little house, totally blurred and moving, as Ma was seeing them. I still have goosebumps thinking about these moments! Think she was totally alone, far from the closer of her neighbors, without phone and any contact with people just to say how bad she was feeling...Awful!

| I gotta say, Reverend Alden went away too quick when he went to pick up the pies! lol I mean... I would have at least looked through the window.... it didn't have any curtains... so it was easy to look to make sure Caroline was really gone lol _________________

No. If you look at the 2nd pic... you can see the sunlight hitting her face from the window...
I think I remember her throwing something which made her break part of the glass on the window... but it was too late... the reverend was already up the road... _________________

| I thought the same thing, Carol! I'd have looked in the window. It's very much a small town thing, too. If it's a REALLY small town, and someone you know, you just pop the door open a bit and call in "Yoo-hoo!" or something similar. If the door happens to be locked - which would be unusual during the daytime - I'd certainly look in the window. _________________

| I watched this last night. She wakes up, while the Rev. and Mrs. Foster are talking, and then crawls over to the window, opens the shutters, with a great deal of effort, grabs the rolling pin, and then breaks the window panes. :o) _________________

| This was another good one -- full of suspense. I liked the visual effects, e.g. blurring the picture to make it appear as Caroline might be seeing it. _________________

| This is a very moving episode. I love how Karen was featured, and how the story was written so well for her.
I can't imagine going through what Caroline went through. Very scary, but her faith held her. This is one of my favorite suspense episodes, though I always know the outcome. LOL!
The girls are so pitiful when they're sitting outside and worrying about Caroline. Bless their hearts. _________________
