| | In this episode, Pa brings home a calf for Albert for Albert to raise and then bring to the fair. Laura is jealous that her Pa is spending all his time with Albert and Fagin and the calf. When Fagin gets sick, Albert nurses the calf back to health and Pa is very proud of Albert. Charles tells Albert that he can now call him Pa. Albert overhears Charles and Caroline talking about how Laura is jealous of all the attention Albert is getting, so Albert runs away. Charles finds Albert at the fair and Albert decides to go back to Walnut Grove after Laura says her award is for her brother, Albert, after she wins first place with Fagin. |

| This is a really good episode that I enjoy a lot. I think it's one of the best episodes that's not often mentioned as being one of the best. I especially like the final scene, when Laura acknowledges Albert as her brother, she and Albert hug, and Charles proudly says to the men standing near him, "My kids. My kids."
Another thing I like about this episode is it's the first full episode back in Walnut Grove after the move back from Winoka. Since the episode where everyone moves back to Walnut Grove is two parts and one of the parts runs 90 minutes, it's always skipped in the regular rotation and airs only on Saturday mornings or some other special time slot. If you watch the episodes in order, you'll see the last full Winoka episode ("The Man Inside" I think), followed immediately by "Fagin". _________________

| This is a fantastic episode. I agree that it stands out as one of the best. Oddly, I really disliked it as a kid. My sister loved it. She was always choosing it when it was her turn to pick from the ones we had recorded on VHS, to the point where I'd be begging her for anything other than Fagin.
I was so surprised when I saw it a year ago, and LOVED it. I was bawling my eyes out. I can't figure out whey the heck I didn't like it as a kid. Maybe because it's more on the serious side, my older sister (3 years old) appreciated the drama more. I think I liked to see Albert funny and happy and scheming, rather than dealing with sadness.
jes9, I also love the moment where Charles says, "My kids. My kids." |

Me too, Beckie. That scene where Albert walks out to Laura in the competition ring makes me cry BUCKETS!!! They had some seriously GOOD criers on this show. Michael, both Melissas, Karen, Matthew, Dabbs, Victor...I mean, very few actors lacked the ability to cry naturally on this show! It's no wonder we were in tears most of the time!!
I always felt sooooo badly for Laura in this one....Melissa played her to a 'T'. And then I felt badly for Albert! I just wanted to give him a great big hug! Good epie. _________________

| Yeah they did have some good criers. I felt bad for Laura in this one too. And of course poor little Albert. _________________
