| I was watching this episode today. Can you imagine if it were that easy to adopt a child? Just go on down to the orphanage and take a child home the same day?
My husband and I are adopting from Liberia and it takes months of paperwork, criminal checks, medical checks and more months for a referrel for a child. And there are thousands of orphans in Africa.
Obviously it is a good thing we are so careful nowdays. But nevertheless...I was thinking "wouldnt that be nice" lol _________________ You remain responsible.. Forever... For what you have tamed. - Antoine de Saint-Exupery |

| Well. Yes..It WAS very easy. I studied this issue, for I was always interested in stories about "adopted children". Until the 1940', you could just go to an orphanage and just pic a child. That's absolutely true. This was this way in EEUU, Europe and in my country too. Nowadays things has changed . So you see...Not all things are more easy nowadays! I made an historical research who confirms this fact, but if you read some books with adopted children in them , you must notice how easy t was to adopt a child: -"Anne of Green Gables" by E. Montgomery -"Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens -"La Fortune de Véronique" by Suzanne Pairault. -"Daddy Longlegs" by Jean Webster. -"Dear Enemy" by Jean Webster (I reccommends highly this story to anyone interested in orphans. It happens entirely in an orphanage. These are the letters of its Principal, Sally MacBride. It happens in the 1910 years and not after, for the author has dead in 1913) -"Annie" by Tommas Meehan (This one is a classic. But if almost everyone has seen the 1982 movie or the musical play of Brodway, almost anyone has read the book. DO IT! Is very interesting and quite different than the musical and even the Harold Gray's cartoon) And others you can't read for they are in Spanish and are not available outside here...but yes; you could go and just pic a child from an orphanage. | This 2 parter is one of my favorites!!! The only thing though is that the entrance of Nancy is closer to the exit of Charles and family. Beckie _________________ The only opinion about you that counts is your own.

If Nancy heard you say that, she would surely say, "You hate me!" _________________

| You're right! I know that I'm in the minority, but I thought Nancy was a hoot! Alison played her to the hilt, and looked like she had a ball in the process. She was mean, nasty, spoiled and psychotic.....but she was fun to totally despise. _________________

| I agree, Savannah. They HAD to bring in someone to fill the shoes of Nellie. It would have been a little boring without dear old Nancy. She's the character you love to hate. _________________

| I just wish they didn't make Nancy quite so evil. _________________ All my life, I wanted to be like you - Laura to Ma in The Last Farewell

| I'll agree with that, too. Especially with locking Belinda in the ice house. That was too awful. _________________

| | as much as I love this televison show, I have never seen this episode! I would love to, though, just to be able to see how well Harriet did in replacing Nellie. |
