No kidding, between that and homophones people who learn English as a second language are in for some trouble.

Well, when you put it that way, I have to agree! *LOL*

I remember when trying to teach my kids how to read saying, "This is the letter ___, but it really sounds like the letter ___." Or, "I know you see the letter ____, but it is silent." They'd look at me like I was nuts!

I'd rather learn english as a second language though than spanish lol because you have to learn how to use different verbs... (more than twice the amount of english) see the example below to show you what I mean GreenSmile

Notice the different words for 'sing' = 'cantar'

I will sing = Yo cantare
You sing = Tu cantas
He sings = El canta
He will sing = El cantara
She sings = Ella canta
They sing = Ellos cantan
They will sing = Ellos cantaran
We sing = Nosotros cantamos

In this example... you only use sing and sings (2) versus the 7 in spanish lol and if I include past tense... we're talking about more lol

You also have to change the adgetives if it's a boy or a girl. For example

House is considered female.... car is considered male

The house is new = La casa es nueva
The car is new = El carro es nuevo

The gh as in rough, the o as in women, and the ti as in nation.

ghoti = fish. Huh?
