| I know Michael Jackson isn't the greatest person around, but his musical career is phenominal. He was one of the best performers in the world! I just bought his essentials 2 cd set yesterday. His music is great!!! I also bought A Janet Jackson and Daddy Yankee cd too!!! Does anyone like these artists?
Daddy Yankee is really cool he does Puerto Rican rap. It's so cool. Well if you hate rap though, you would not like his music.

| I do like Michael's music. In the 80s, my cousins and I would watch 'Michael Jackson's Moonwalker'. The whole movie was like one big party so we would have dance contests lol.

| I was never quite cool enough for Michael Jackson's music, I guess.  Beethoven stole my heart.  I do love a wide variety of music..........but MJ's music just never really clicked with me.

| I love Thriller! I have that cd too. The movie was so scary when I was a kid, lol. I also like the songs Rock With You, Off the Wall, Beat It, Keep It in the Closet, Butterflies, You Rock My World, PYT, Man in the Mirror and many more! I also love his music with his brothers, Can You Feel It?, Dancing Machine, etc.
My nephew is a HUGE fan of him. At his and then his sister's wedding he danced to his music like him and even wore shades and a white glove! It was awesome!!!

| Yes.....I have to agree, Larry. If I had been a fan of his music, his life choices would have ruined it for me. I've lost respect for a couple of musicians/singers over the years. I couldn't be a fan of their music anymore, because I couldn't get beyond the complete lack of respect that I had for them as people.

I feel the same way. I love MJ's music and think he's so talented. It's a shame he has made such bad choices in his life, it definitely has caused me to lose respect for him.
Beck, I have heard of Daddy Yankee too - I think I've heard one song before, but since I'm not big on rap, I don't remember which! LOL.

| I can't say that I could agree that his music is genius. And it has nothing to do with his personality. There are a few musicians whose music I could agree is genius, but I don't care for the style of music. . . . or don't like the musician, but could still admit that their music is genius. But I just don't find his music to be in that category.

Yeah you are right. Someone's definition of a legend could be different than someone else's depending on what they like. Like people think Johnny Chash is a legend. I think he was a horrible singer. He could not carry a tune in my opinion.

In the last 40 years or so, there have been a lot of singers with voices that are... idiosyncratic. Not technically good, but distinctive. Johnny Cash is certainly one, along with Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Leonard Cohen, Gwen Stefani. And many, many others I'm sure.
None of them would ever win American Idol, but it's hard to imagine anyone else doing their songs as well as they do. |

Very true. Some of the more unusual voices definitely aren't "pretty" in the traditional sense of the word, but they have a quality of beauty. Some of them. Some I still don't get.  LOL!
