In honor of Kara's 16th birthday tomorrow, I thought I'd share the LH cake I made for her 10th birthday.

I made two 13 x 9 cakes, cut them in half to be 13 x 4.5, and stacked them up. Then I cut the shape of the roof. I used graham sticks for the shingles and window boxes. I iced graham crackers for the porch and chimney and added dry roasted peanuts to the chimney for a stone look. The wood pile was made by splitting pretzel nuggets. I think I used graham crackers for the shelves. Everything else is icing. I mixed flour and cocoa to make dirt to go around the house (it looks a lot lighter in the picture). It wasn't hard to make--just time consuming. It took most of the day to make.

Her cake this year took all day too. She loves I Love Lucy so I made her a 50's style television with the black and white heart that says "I Love Lucy" on the screen. It was my first time using fondant. My arm is killing me from mixing color into the fondant. I can see why they airbrush the color on a lot of times on shows like Ace of Cakes.

This is SO cute! You did a great job.

For Madison's 9th birthday I made a General Lee cake for him. (Dukes of Hazzard)
He was so into that then. It does take alot of muscle to mix the colors and get it just right.

Thanks for sharing this!!

Thank you so much for the details, Lori! That might just be Rachel's next birthday cake!

And I agree with Jacob - I'd love to see the Lucy TV cake! What an imagination you have!

I loved reading those details! Did you come up with all this on your own Lori? Amazing! So is the 'log siding' just icing then, with something carved into it to make the 'slats'? It just looks so textured!

Savannah, you should totally do this for Rachel---she'd go bonkers!

I'd love to see the Lucy cake too Lori!

Yes, I came up with the idea myself. The siding is just icing. I iced the whole thing first, then piped on the vertical slats.

I'll post a picture of the Lucy cake when Kara gets home. I can post pictures off the internet, but I need her help to post our own pictures.
