A fever don't sound good. This needs to be addressed NOW. This could leave damage to his ear/hearing. I know how frustrating this is for you Savannah. Stay on them....

I agree Gin....a fever should be all the more reason to get him in---could be related. UGH. Leave it to John and April. Whistle

Poor Caleb, I hope he feels better. :sad5:

That's what I have been thinking too. You don't want to mess with the inner ear. I pray that they take him back to the doctor today. Each day that goes by untreated could be critical.

My Mom called over today, and they do have an appointment for Caleby for tomorrow, so I'm praying that they follow through with it!

I don't think his fever was related to the ear issue. His ear isn't red, painful or hot.....and Jeremiah and Michael both were running low-grade temps, too....So I'm thinking it's a bug that's going around. (Almost half of Michael's class was out sick on Monday! Yikes!) And Caleb was doing well again today, with no temperature, thank the Lord. I will be SO GLAD when this is all taken care of!! Thanks again for all of your prayers. It means so much to me. That's my baby - and it's his hearing that could be at stake if this is left untreated, whatever it is. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything more.

Thanks for keeping us posted Savannah. I know you're suffering too. :alright: I know it's pretty much out of your control and that has to be such a helpless feeling. Yes, please continue to update...hopefully tomorrow really will be the day they take him in.

About the illness, this thing going around is absolutely nuts. I am STILL coughing and it's been 4 weeks. I've been on an antibiotic and it hasn't touched it. It really is part of the 'flu' and it just has to run its course. So much of Nick & Jeremiah's high school is out too, with all different types of flu symptoms. Nick was sick about a month ago, but was able to kick it more quickly than I did. And you know, schools have a strict policy about how much school you can actually miss...they may have to re-structure that with all these absences. What are people supposed to do?! Anyway, I just hope Caleb and all the kids are well soon. I am praying Savannah. Love

I hope they are able to take him to the dr. today, Savannah. I certainly understand your worry and concern. It has to be a helpless feeling. Blue I appreciate your updates and hope to hear soon that whatever is going on is resolved and he is feeling better. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Well, a sigh of relief....they *finally* took him back in, and it is, indeed, an eraser. They couldn't flush it out, though, so they had to make another appointment to have him taken in to an office that has some other tools to try to dislodge the eraser. If that doesn't work, they'll have to sedate him and do minor surgery, which (of course) I really, really would like to avoid. So, praise the Lord it isn't a serious infection or a tumor! And now to pray that they can get that wretched little eraser out without surgery!

Thank you so much, everyone, for your concern and prayers for my little fella. That means so much to me!

Savannah, I am so glad that the doctors were able to see that it was, in fact, a little eraser. I'd like to have a little "talk" with the boy who put it in there, and his parents. The boy obviously doesn't realize how dangerous that is. And now look, Caleb has to go through all of these procedures, in hopes of getting it out safely. If anyone could set them in their place, it's April. LOL!! Although, I would have no problem doing it too, if it were one of my kids. LOL!
Thank you for letting us know. I've been really worried about him. Do they have to wait until Monday to go back in? I pray that the doctors can get it out with a simple little tool, and surgery is not required. I'm just relieved that they actually confirmed that the eraser was in his ear, and didn't overlook it. That could have been horrible.
Please keep us updated. Are the other children feeling better now?

The only thing about that is, it sounds kind of painful and I'm not so sure a 7 year old is going to sit still and 'take it', you know? I don't know Caleb though; maybe he's a tougher guy than I give him credit for! ;) Most kids would be pretty scared and nervous about sth like that though, and might be too squirmy for the doctor to get in there with the tool successfully. I hope they can manage it without the surgery.

My main issue is that these three doctors didn't do X-rays or send him to a specialist from the get-go. They all 'thought' that it wasn't an eraser, but they didn't know it for certain. Seems to me that's at least reason to call for an X-ray, at the very least! IMO, they dropped the ball...if John & April blew this off completely, who knows how long this little guy could have gone around with an eraser in his ear?! I am happy to hear that he's getting the help he needs now though. Thanks for the update and I'll continue to pray for him.

Savannah, has April said anything about the boy that put the eraser in Caleb's ear? If I were her, I would definitely tell Caleb's teacher about this. You wouldn't think that a teacher would have to tell 7 year olds the importance of not putting anything in anyone's ears, nose, etc...................but it looks like this kid needs that lecture. The teacher could talk to the entire class about it, and then take this boy aside and talk to him directly. He needs to know that what he did was very dangerous. I just wouldn't be able to let something this serious go, without telling the teacher about it. I would also want the teacher to talk to this boy's parents. I wouldn't want this to happen to someone else.

Well, at least you know what it is, but I agree on talking to the teacher. That's scary. What is he going to try jamming into someone's body next?

Mom and I talked to April about talking to the teacher, but she seemed reluctant to do that. And we're not suggesting that she tirade at the teacher and blame her, etc. . . . We just thought that it would be wise for her to address the class about not putting things in anyone's ears (or nose, or eyes, or whatever!).

And Amy, I completely agree. If the doctors were uncertain about whether it was an inflammation or an eraser (*huh??*) they should have done an x-ray to be sure.

Michael had a solution that had pictures of Bugs Bunny running through my mind. He suggested "Tip your head to the left, Caleb, and start bopping the other side of your head. Maybe stuff'll start falling out".

Thanks again for your prayers!!

Actually, I think that Caleb's teacher would be glad that April told her about this. Teachers can't see everything that goes on within the classroom. I'm sure that she would talk to the class as a whole, to prevent this from happening again.

That was what I thought, too, Teresa. But April doesn't seem to agree, and I have to choose my battles....It was more important to me that they get Caleb back to the doctor, so I focused on encouraging them to do that. She may surprise us and actually talk to the teacher, but she seems quite set against it.

I agree with Teresa, but I can see where you have to pick your battles when it comes to April. It must be so difficult. Ugh. At least the issue at hand is being addressed anyway. Saying prayers for Caleb!!

Sending prayers Caleb's way. What a thing for a youngster to go through.

Was the other child's parents were made aware of this?
