| *sigh* My Mom's blood pressure is on the rise again. Several things are factoring in - one of which could be a bad mix of meds. I bought her a book about different medications, and it specifically said in there that two of her medications should never be taken together, because it can cause a stroke or heart attack. Then, several things have happened over the last few days that have been extremely difficult to deal with. It just seems like it's been one thing after another. Well, this afternoon, her vision went black in one eye, then all she could see was purple and blue. It didn't last long, but it's obviously not a good thing. So, she called the opthomologist, and he said to go in to see her doctor, or to the ER, because it's her blood pressure causing spasms in the veins. So.........please pray for her. She's been under an enormous amount of stress - and yesterday was horrible for us both. I'm sure it didn't help. But prayer will! _________________

| I'm sorry your mom (and you!) are going through this, Savannah. I can see where the stress itself is enough to cause the high blood pressure, but yes, surely the two wrong meds mixed together isn't helping! Prayers for both of you. _________________

| Prayers for your mom and for you as well Savannah.....
It just amazes me how doctors can and will prescribed medicines without knowing what other meds a person is on.....that is WRONG! I mean, every single time I see my oncologist, that is the first question the nurse asks me, "What medications are you taking?" You would figure, if they are going to ask the question, they need to pay attention to the answer and make sure meds aren't being taken with the wrong meds............. _________________

| Thank you all very much! Her blood pressure WAS at 155/125. The lower number is especially problematic. The two numbers, ideally, should be much further apart from one another. The closer they are, the worse it is. She's doing a little better tonight, and is resting. Neither one of us even went to church tonight. She wasn't up to it, and I didn't feel safe leaving her alone. So, we're going to spend a quiet evening at home, watching fluff tv, and trying to recouperate from life. _________________

| Oh - and Rhonda, I couldn't agree more about the meds! There are several things that mixing these two meds can (in "rare" instances) do, and one of them is to suddenly spike the blood pressure. The last time she was at the doctor's office, another doctor told my Mom's doc "I wouldn't have put her on Topril if you already have her on ___________" (I can't remember the second name right now) But maybe now we know why he wouldn't have recommended putting her on that. _________________

I have to wonder the same thing Rhonda. My sister got into all her prescription drug abuse just by being handed everything on a silver platter by her doctors. I'm not excusing her, but perhaps she wouldn't be in as bad a shape as she is now if she hadn't been given so many meds to mix together, and so easily. Of course, eventually a doctor would figure her out, but then she'd just go on to the next doctor, and the next, and the next pharmacy, and the next. No one any the wiser. It's sad. _________________

| {{{{Savannah}}}} I'm so sorry to hear that! Taking certain types of meds at the same time can sure be dangerous. My aunt did that once and we even had to call an ambulance because she got really bad... this happened a couple years ago but it was the effect of taking 2 certain meds at the same time...
Rest should help and I pray that she gets better each day. _________________

| I sure appreciate all of your prayers, everyone! Mom went to the doctor today, and talked to her about getting off Verapamil. The doctor was very offended, and told Mom that she needs to stay on it, or risk dying at any moment from a heart attack or stroke. But.......she also said that a specialist happened to be there today, and asked if Mom would like to hear HIM tell her the same thing. (The doctor really is usually very good, I think her pride was just hurt that Mom didn't fully agree with her) So........the specialist came in, and Mom told him her concerns about being on Verapamil along with the two other meds - and that each time she's taken it the last three weeks, it makes her heart hurt. (Mom's doctor had told her that that is just a coincidence. ) He listened (I love it when doctors listen) and told her that there are so many blood pressure medications available, that it really isn't necessary for her to stay on one that she's afraid of taking. So, he told her to drop the Verapamil, and start up on. . . . . oh, shoot.........I don't remember what the new one is. But, at any rate, she's off the Verapamil. It's really funny..........when Mom mentioned Verapamil to the nurse a while back, Mom pronounced it vuh-RAH-puh-mil. The nurse said "Oh, you mean Vera Pamel". It sounded like a 50's actress. (It's pronounced vuh-RAH-puh-mil, by the way. LOL!) _________________

| I love how you takes things with humor, Savannah! I laughed a lot reading about Verapamil story!
And of course, I'm happy your mother's blood pressure is beginning to go down.

| I love it when doctor's actually listen! I am so glad that the specialist was there that day because, though I am sure your mom's doctor is good, it sounded like she wasn't willing to listen to her fears.
I am glad to hear that her blood pressure is on the way down and I hope she continues to do well.
Thanks for the update, I've been wondering how your mom was doing! _________________

| Good news! It sounds things are doing well for your mother...And yes, Pam, I agree. Specialist should hear a lot more tjheir patients and understand they could be scared for some symptoms they have. Some doctors acts as their patients where dolls without feelings, nor pain. A Doctor must take in consideration their patients in a whole: spiritually and physically.

| After a couple of months of relatively good readings, my Mom's blood pressure, for some reason, shot super high in the night. It's higher this morning than it's ever been. So, we'd sure appreciate your prayers. I'll keep you posted on it. Thank you! _________________

| Right after I posted, I ended up taking her to the emergency room. Her blood pressure just kept going up. We just got back a few minutes ago. They were able to bring her blood pressure down from 194/137 to 121/83. That's much, much better.
She had been trying to tell her own doctor that one of her meds was making her sick, but the doctor wouldn't listen. The ER doctor took her off that med, and wrote an order for her to be referred to a cardiologist. (He also mentioned that my Mom's doctor has a reputation for being "petulant". That's a polite word for it. ) My Mom is resting now, and is feeling better.Thank you all so much for your prayers! It's so appreciated! _________________

| Your poor mom, Savannah! I will pray that her blood pressure stays stable and that this doesn't happen again, and also that the cardiologist is able to provide some better care (not to mention peace of mind). _________________
