Subject: My mom isn't doing well Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:22 am

I think most of you may know that my mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, many years ago. It progressed over the years to the point where she has been confined to a wheelchair. To make matters worse, she also has scoliosis, which causes her spine to curve at an odd angle. She is too weak to hold herself upright, so her left arm is basically used as an anchor, to help hold her up. Her left elbow has become permanently bent because of it, to the point where it almost looks webbed at the bend, and her left wrist is just floppy. So she has no use of that arm, and then only limited use of her right arm.

She has continuous problems and pain in her abdominal area, and she gets one bladder infection after another, getting weaker and weaker over time. She's lost so much weight, that she is just skin and bones anymore. Her spirits are very low lately, and she even said last weekend that she just doesn't want to go on anymore.

I cannot tell you how hard it is to watch someone you love so much suffer like she is. It is the worst kind of torture imaginable. I can't imagine how hard it will be to lose my mom, yet I can't bear to watch her suffer like this either. And knowing that she is in constant pain and miserable all the time. Even the things that once brought her joy, they just don't seem to be able to break through that barrier of pain anymore. I feel so helpless.

I'm sorry to hear about this Pam. My godmother had MS and it is such a horrible and debilitating disease. I'll be praying for you and your Mom.

I will pray that God give you both strength to deal with this.

I remember you mentioning your mom a while back when I talked about my uncle. In his last days... things got really tough. It was hard to watch him suffer and yet it was hard to imagine letting him go. I remember being at the hospital at 1 AM and watching my cousin... she looked tired and was crying because it was hard to see and hear her dad and yet she couldn't think of him passing away... and when you just said that about your mom... it reminded me of her.

I know you wish you could ease her pain, but just be there for her... even though her spirits are low... having you by her side gives her that little extra strength she may need.

You will both be in my prayers.

My prayers for you and your family Pam. I know how hard it is to watch her suffer like this and to hear her say she doesn't want to go on. I pray she has the strength to endure whatever comes her way.................love to you.

MS touches so many people directly as well as the whole family. Sorry to hear of your moms suffering. I will keep you all in my prayers. Thanks for letting us share this hardship with you. Keep us updated.

Prayers for your mom and your family, Pam. That must be so heartwrenching to go through. I'll be praying for strength for all of you, and that your mom is able to find peace and joy in things she used to enjoy.

Thank you all so much. I can't tell you how much it means to me to know you are there. I tend to keep things bottled up inside, and that's not always the best thing to do.

It hit me especially this morning because my brother was telling me how the weekend was with my mom (she was having a hard time). It hits him really hard because he lives there and helps out as much as he can, but he's around it all the time so he feels it so much more than I do.

Pam I am so very sorry to hear this. I can't imagine what it must be like for her, or for you. I just can't imagine losing my mom one day either. I'll be praying for strength for your mom and for you. Take care.

This disease is awful. One of my great-aunts suffered from it, and she also end her life confined to a weelchair. She suffered as well as your mother does, Pam, for my aunt used to be a very active woman.

You and your mother are in my prayers. I hope she will no suffer so much, but I'm also praying for the end of your own suffering, dear Pam, since there isn't a single thing most painful in the world than seeing our beloved ones going through hard times or physical suffering. Blue
