| Shiloh had his appointment today.
We got to the doctor and Shiloh got called back. They took us to a room where they ran another hearing test on him. She asked me why he was there before she conducted the test, which I thought was strange. I had assumed that the Seguin doctor, Dr. Hennessy, had sent his paperwork to them.
So, they tested him on several different machines and then back out to the waiting room.
Finally, we got sent back where Shiloh got weighed and then into the room waiting for the doctor (specialist). When he came in there he asked what the problem was. David explained that he thought that Dr. Hennessy had sent the information but she hadn't. So, he had a nurse call her and then he had her office fax over the results of the hearing tests.
He then sat down and told us that according to the tests he took, Shiloh's hearing was NORMAL! He showed us the charts and it was the same as what any other child's looks like. He compared it to Dr. Hennessy's charts and her "lines" were all over the place. Now, when we took Shi to see her, she took two different tests in one day and the difference in the levels were vast. He said that it probably could be explained that her machines weren't calibrated right.
He also said that he looked at the CT scan from the hospital and he did not see anything wrong with the scan of his ears! He talked to Dr. Hennessy on the phone and she said that after the CT scan, the TECHNICIAN at the hospital had read the results and reported them to her. I'm guessing that the technicians aren't specialists like the ear/nose/throat doctors are and so they can misread things.
So, in a nutshell, Shiloh is okay and there is nothing wrong with his ears beyond how any other kid hears! We are so relieved and thrilled!!!! Now, he can resume the activities he had to drop before.
Thank you all for your prayers for him!!! _________________

| That's wonderful news, Misti!! I am so happy that Shiloh will be okay, and that his hearing is normal. All of that stress that you and your family had to endure...................Shiloh must have been so scared at the thought of having a permanent hearing loss. I think that the first doctor needs a refresher course in administering the hearing tests. Was she an audiologist? Shouldn't she have looked over the results as well? At least the second doctor was more compitent in what he was doing. _________________

I would have thought she should have but maybe she wasn't trained to read them? I'm not sure. She is an ear/nose/throat specialist but I know that the cd of his results, I didn't pick them up from his doctor; I picked them up from the hospital. Maybe her determination came from the results of her hearing test machines. _________________

| WHAT A RELIEF MISTI!!!! Technicians ARE trained to read the results of the tests.......but the MAIN doctor is to verify them. If the machines were off, they need to do a big overhaul on them and get them working. No family should suffer thru the worry and anxiety that you all went through. By the way, my guys have the same hearing problem, I call it "Selective Hearing". _________________

| Misti that is awesome news. Makes you want to shake someone though huh? You might want to write someone a letter regarding the misread films....just so it doesnt happen to someone else. I know Shiloh is more than happy to do all the things he has missed. Now you can put your megaphone up! _________________ It is the lack of Christianity that has brought us where we are. | Congrats, Misti!!!! I'm REALLY relieved to hear those news! I knows you from two boards ago( four? Five years? That's a lot! ) and you are as a real friend to me! I should have suffered a lot if your son has some big hearing trouble...I'm really happy things are O.K now...And I'm know YOU certainly are!
