I just saw this on Facebook, too. It's excellent, Rhonda. Thanks for sharing it here! It really is a very important message to get out. I see SO many younger friends saying how lonely and/or bored they are, but they're sitting in their room in front of their computer ALL the time! And when they ARE out and about, they're still wired to the web, with their mind in their own little world. . . and they're missing out on opportunities for friendship and love right there in their own town, while looking for exactly that on the World Wide Web. Obviously I don't think it's BAD to be online. I found my two best friends that way...But yep - there has to be a balance, too. And sometimes it's easy to lose sight of that.

Well in my teen day's i talked face 2 face with my friends. Or i talked to them on the phone for hours. Didn't have cell phones. ( Well we did, but don't think teens used them.) Or Ipdads, No facebook. I just think kids/teens were more social then todays.

No I don't think so. I don't think that kids (or adults) are really any different at heart now than they were years ago. It's just that there's technology now that wasn't available at that time. Kids (and adults) today don't realize what they're missing out on because they spend SO much time obsessing over Facebook and everyone on the internet. I think that today's kids would have just as much fun playing the same outdoor games that we enjoyed as kids if their parents would stop stuffing techno toys into their hands to keep them occupied so that Mom and Dad can play on THEIR computers. And it isn't just the kids who are losing out, it's adults as well. At heart, people still need love and friendship, human interaction, hugs, and the voice of someone who loves them. . . And while deep friendships - and even romances - can start on the internet...if the internet is the only place where that relationship exists, then it would be extremely difficult to become a fulfilling, lasting relationship of any sort.

I'd been thinking about this for quite a while, and it was interesting to hear and see it put into such a well-done presentation.

I'm certainly glad you posted that Rhonda. I've always been the type to have the latest in technology and enjoy many of the great things that are available today. But for years, I've been watching aimlessly pounding on their phones texting or talking to someone.

I've always chalked my opinion up to the fact that I am so much older, and it was a new generation. But I have always believed that it was somewhat harmful to kids. I know parents that are paying up to 300 bucks a month in phone bills for their kids. And as Lisa says, its not confined to the kids. It's the adults too. The lack of human interaction is scary to me.

I've always asked myself "What did we do before all this came about?" The answer is simple. We talked to each other. I'm of the opinion that a lot of our woes today is due to the lack of the family unit. EVERYONE is occupied with something else. Unfortunately, technology, in my opinion, has made it worse.

But one thing is for sure. Parents have the power to control it and the vast majority aren't doing it. It applies to education as well. Government throws billions of dollars a year at schools. If the parents don't back it up with instilling good study habits, then it is ALL for nothing.

I don't know what the answer is, but I do know one thing. It continues to get worse.

Just an old fashioned point of view.............................

I know some younger people that are new parents, and sad to say, they post pictures of their babies playing on their tablets or viewing a game on their smart phone.  That is WAY too young to be introduced to technology....Yes, it is out there, but teach your kids to play before you get them hooked on electronics.  By the time these babies get grown, they won't know what face to face communication is or how to go out and play.....I was worried about my boys wanting to have all the newest gadgets and becoming couch potatoes, but I was so lucky that they learned how fun it could be outside playing ball, riding a bike, or just hanging out with their friends, and enjoyed it!  They all have their smart phones now, but they know how to put them down and go out and do something; which I am glad (and proud) they learned that balance in life.    Thumbsup

Yeah, I agree with you guy's. I see young kids that have Cell phones and that's crazy. Kids/teens and adults should be about and out more.

What annoys me is. When your talking to a person and they are paying more attention to texting people. Instead of listing you. I mean if it was a imporant call/tex then that is different.

Thanks Dave, I really am!  I was a Tomboy while growing up, and being outdoors was my favorite place to be; and still is.  I was worried they'd have weight problems, and that was the last thing I wanted them to have, since it leads to so many other health problems.....so, I was bound and determined to play outside with them and show them my love for the outdoors and hope they would grab onto it.....they love to camp, play basketball, baseball, soccer, etc., shoot guns, run and play with their dogs.....They just grabbed hold of what I hoped they would....  batEyes

You can just imagine what if it had been like if Laura Ingalls would have had a cell phone! We certainly wouldn't have any great stories to read! No long talks with Pa. No meaningful conversations with Ma, and Lord knows, she would not have gotten any chores done! She wouldn't have had any time for Jack either! God Help us!

yes Rob and I were talking about this a while back. Not directly about Laura, but in relation to the writers and composers of history who created paintings, or books, or musical pieces that still continue inspire awe, and touch hearts hundreds of years later. Would any of them have accomplished such things if the internet had been available to them? It makes me wonder what kinds of inspiring works we might be missing out on because that "author" is spending his/her time staring at a computer screen. Technology is wonderful, and I enjoy the knowledge that's available at our fingertips...but we have to be careful to not allow it to swallow us whole. I'm afraid that many people will wake up someday and realize that they've shut real life out for so long that it finally has shut them out as well.  Blue

Put that iPhone down! And 14 other digital resolutions for 2015

http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/09/living/feat-digital-resolutions-2015/index.html?sr=fb011115digitalresolutions9pstorylink

What do you think?

Think it's a great idea. Well all theses things are awesome & nice. People don't really seem to enjoy things the old fashion way any more.

1. Reading a real book.

2. Maybe sending real letters in the mail/ Sending cards. Not texting or sending FB comments. lol

3. Talking face 2 Face. Calling on an phone. lol

Technology has changed how we communicate with each other, that's for sure.  Some of it is a good step forward, and some of it has hindered our social lives. No
