Be Thankful!!!

I got off the highway, went through the local streets to go home from work this evening. I waited for some people crossed the street before I could make a right turn. The last person to cross was this beautiful girl no older than 20 with her long auburn color hair, I thought wow she could be a model. I waved to her to cross first, but she stopped and waved back with her right hand for me to go first, so I waved again and said thank you with a smile. As I was making my turn, I noticed she smiled back AND she had no left limb. I didn't want to stare at her so I kept driving. I suddenly felt so sad and wondered: Was she born without a limb? Did she have an accident to lose a limb? Did she lose her limb due to an illness? I just felt so sad driving the rest of the way home thinking about her, for she was such a pretty girl. Suddenly, I felt so blessed in my life, that I have all my limbs. All the time I had complained about my hair not in the right place, or this outfit made me look fat, all the petty stuff we whine about in an annoying fashion, all seemed so ridiculously preposterous. So, what I'm trying to say is that for those of you who feel just a little deprived at something, please remember that in time, everything will go the way it plans, just be thankful. I know I am tonight.

You mean limb? Aww that is so sad. We don't realize how lucky we are until we see something like that.

Oh wow that's so sad but I don't think she's want us to feel bad for her - she lives her life just like the rest of us with (how I hope she views it) a small handicap. She seemed happy and polite, and there's much more to life than dwelling on the bad things. But yes, I am thankful that I'm healthy and haven't gone through such an accident as hers, but she is definitely teaching us to be more accepting of others and showing us that life doesn't end with different handicaps.

But Lily, that is great that you took the time to think about this, and were reminded to count your blessings. I am 'hit' during the day all the time of reasons to be thankful. And you just did! Wink

Yes, Melissa. I think you are right. But I also think that these kind of things makes us to think about how really, really lucky we are to be healthy and without major problems. Every day has a new thing to teach us! Wave

I agree Melissa, it really fires me up when some people think less of others because they are different from us. Or make fun of them.
