ROME — Luciano Pavarotti, whose vibrant high C's and ebullient showmanship made him the most beloved and celebrated tenor since Caruso and one of the few opera singers to win crossover fame as a popular superstar, died Thursday. He was 71.

I don't like opera but this song I liked.

Thumbsup Luciano Pavarotti sings "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot

It's a song that gives me chills...

I read last night that he had become seriously ill and was in a fatal condition and had a feeling that he would die the next day and then when I returned from work today I read the news that he had passed away... I love makle opera for some reason and he´s going to be deeply missed..
We have certainly lost one of the world´s greatest tenors. May he rest in peace.. My thoughts go to his family and his poor little daughter

Aww, I was gonna post about this, lol.

I am very sad about this.bawling He died of pancreatic cancer like Michael Landon did.bawling I absolutely LOVED his voice!!! He was great with The Three Tenors too. My dad bought a video of them. They were quite funny together too. And of course sounded wonderful together. When he sang Nessun Dorma, I always cry. One of the most beautiful melodies of all time!! One time he was scheduled to sing this on an awards show, got sick and Aretha Franklin sang it. It was wonderful. Not a dry eye in the house! Here's another wonderful version of him singing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VATmgtmR5o4

I love the ending of the song when he holds out that long note and the orchestra plays behind it. He has done many performances here in Pittsburgh. Wish I would have had the chance to see him here. He was good friends with one of our former mayors Sophie Maslof.

Luciano Pavarotti was one great tenor. :sing: Every time I listen to him sing Nessun Dorma, he just gives me such a chill...very emotional. He will be missed by many in the opera industry and many of his fans. No My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Don't feel bad Susie. I knew who he was, and he had a great voice, but I wasn't an opera fan, so that's about all I know about him.

To put it into perspective, he was to opera what Elvis was to rock and roll.

Yes, that's very true Larry. He made Opera more mainstream and packed the house like never before!!!

I watched a few old interviews of him on Charlie Rose last night. He was a very hubmle man. He said before he went onstage that he was worried he would mess up and got very nervous. But when he went out there all his fears dissappeared and he was like a totally different person. That's the way I felt in school whenever I did a little acting. I was not shy in the least. He also said he knew that his voice would eventually not be as strong anymore as he got older. He was also a humanitarian.

What a voice. My dad's favorite opera singer ever, actually. May Luciano rest in peace.

He was my dad's favorite opera singer too, Amy. I grew up listening to him, and I always cry when I hear "Nessun Dorma" as well. My prayers go out to his family.
