PostSubject: Re: The weather    Mon Dec 16, 2013 4:59 pm

it was in the 20s here today, which is where the temperature has been staying for the last few days. We got several inches of snow on Saturday, but it turned to rain, so now my yard is really just one big sheet of ice. I almost considered getting out my old hockey skates and skating out to our barn to take care of my horses, since that sounds easier than trying to walk on the ice! I hope everyone else is staying warm!

Ok, so who else is getting dumped on?  We can't keep our snowblower going fast enough!  I think we have a foot total, then are due to get 8 more over night, then more the next several days for a total of 14 more on top of what we have now.  Yikes!

Windchill is supposed to get down between -22 and -32 here.  My sons are west of us though, with lake effect, and it's going to get much colder there.  Hoping they close the college at least for tomorrow!!

Rhonda, I sure don't envy you!!

How in the world do you all keep the pipes from breaking back there. Outdoor faucets and such?
Must be of real concern in those extreme temps.................

Outside, you unhook all water hoses and are supposed to leave a little bit of water dripping, but I just unhook the hoses.  They also make insulators that you can put on your outside taps to keep them from freezing.  Inside, I prop the cabinet doors in the kitchen and bathroom open so the heat in the house will keep the pipes under the sinks warm.  If the pipes are going to freeze enough to burst, there is really nothing more you can do.  greenS

I used the Dolly Partons back east on the outside faucets, but never experienced any of that below zero stuff.......Stay warm Rhonda!

Our Governor had closed all schools state-wide today. The windchills were going to be between -35 to -65 below zero. Right now the actual temp is -20 and the windchill is -42. That means up North it's easily -65. Yikes! On Friday the temp is supposed to be 34 degrees, ABOVE zero. That's going to seem tropical!!! Ha! I think our December ranked among the top 10 coldest.

-65 degree wind chills?! Just CrAzY!!! Hard to think of us as the 'lucky ones' right now, but I guess we should count our blessings!

We're snowed in under 16.5 inches of snow. No getting out of the subdivision with just our car or mini-van. You need a truck for that kind of accumulation. Ugh.

School was just canceled for tomorrow. This is turning into quite a long winter break for the kids!

Ok, I know that I am the weird one here but I love winter. You will never hear me complain about it. I will take this over summer any day. I must admit, it doesn't have to be this cold, its a bit extreme but I am ok with it as long as everyone is safe. I can live much more comfortably when I have to move to get warm than die of heat and humidity in the summer.

I'm with you on that, Marilyn. I like summer, but the heat and humidity really make me suffer.
