Close enough!?

Tonight at church, one of the young men came and asked me if I could accompany him while he played the trumpet. (Tonight) The person who was going to accompany him was sick. No problem..........so I went with him to practice a bit before the service started. He started to play, and his instrument was VERY off key, so we worked for a while on getting it tuned to the piano. After a while, he said "I just can't get it.......I guess it's close enough". :Hahaha: I didn't let him leave it at "close enough". LOL . . . My ears couldn't take that! But I got such a laugh out of "close enough". We'd have been playing in two different keys at the same time. OUCH! Laughing

Yes, we played tonight, Rob. In the same key. Laughing

Then, after church, two other pianists and I started working on a six-hands-at-one-piano trio. We've been working on the individual parts, and tonight started putting it together. That is going to be FUN! We were worried about whether we could all gracefully sit on one bench. :Hahaha: It would never do for us to be playing along on "Angels We Have Heard On High" when suddenly one of the pianists falls down low. stars

My God, what an hilarious story! I think that an off key trumpet is just a great disaster for anyone's ears. grinsmiley

Only other instrument could be compared to it: fiddle. When a fiddle is off key it could be just awful

I've never heard 3 people on one piano before. That would be interesting. That should be a great song for it.

There's a link to a six-hand piece.

Then, there's a lovely six-hand piece called "Ever Joyful" by Ralph Manuel. I'm trying to find a link to it. I tried posting the link but it didn't work right.

It has to be played slightly differently than a duet because of so many hands on the keyboard - otherwise you get a "muddy" sound. There's the Primo and Secondo parts like in a duet, then there's the Terzo, which is the lowest section. (Which I'm playing in this piece......so I do have the danger of falling off the bench. LOL!)

(Oh.......and I forgot to mention that we *did* all fit on the bench. LOL......It was a duet bench, so it's slightly longer than average)

I'll have to show the six hands video to my daughter. She'll like that. She just got an iPod for her birthday, and all she has on it is the 5 Browns. They usually get there own pianos though.
