Because Junk food will give you that sugar rush or 'sugar high' making you feel better for a little while..... then you go back down and feel depressed again Blue

I tend to eat junk food sometimes after a bad day. Something about chocolate, it makes you think it will help in some way. Carol's right about the sugar rush, and there's the whole idea of "comfort food" too, food you like that makes you "feel better" b/c, well, you like it. Hope you're feeling better!

And while the men probably don't want to hear this [block your ears] usually when you are about to get your period you also crave chocolate. I'm sure it is hormone related, but I never need an excuse to eat chocolate. :Hahaha:

I must be depressed 24/7 then, cuz I'm a junk food hound. Ever since I quit drinking, I go through LOTS of chocolate and other candy. The wife gets mads cuz she keeps saying "you'll get diabetes" but I just had a blood test last month and my sugar was totally normal. You'd be hard pressed to find a room in my house that doesn't have some candy or chocolate of some sort in it.

Well, except the bathroom. That would be kinda gross.

It doesn't help, though. My Grandma, and two of my Aunts ate sweets for years without getting diabetes, but it did finally catch up with them. They all ended up with diabetes. A steady diet of sweets isn't healthy, even if it never gives you diabetes. The more sugar that we eat, the harder it is for our immune system to function properly to keep us from getting the flu, colds, etc.... Sweets now and then aren't a bad thing, though - especially if you eat a basically balanced diet with vegetables and fruit, etc....

Chocolate isn't the only thing you should be worried about but also foods very high in carbs like white rice, mashed potatoes, etc.... When eaten... the food is turned into sugar. So if you never exercise and eat too much of those types of foods, in time you will likely develop type 2 diabetes.

Older people tend to get it because like Savannah said, in time, it may catch up to them and their pancreas is not producing enough insulin to control the sugar that gets into the body.
A healthy pancreas is always producing insulin in response to sugars and carbohydrates that you take in. By taking in large amounts of sugars and carbs you can cause excess wear and tear on your pancreas that results in decreased functioning.

I became borderline type 2 diabetec (because I ate a lot of junk food like sweets, potato chips, soda, etc) but with a change I made in my diet and exercise it's just about gone now. happy1

Humm...I've never ate junk food after a depressing day. The only thing I ate after a bad day were crackers and candies...But I also should eat them after a GOOD day. grinsmiley :shy:
