Well, its that time again. On the north end of our property, we had the grass growing high and lots of big weeds but the winter took care of them.

Hubby mowed a section out and today our neighbor came over with his tractor and broke up the ground. We went looking for a tiller today and think we found one. We went ahead and picked up some yellow squash, zuchinni squash, green bell peppers, okra, black eyed peas and tomorrow, hubby will get the peas, sweet corn & tomatoes. I can't wait to start planting.

We also got a pitchfork (labeled at Wal-Mart as a "manure spreader") to get out a lot of the grass left behind.

Anyway, anyone else gonna have a garden this year?

Dang woman, you spend more time at Wal-Mart than I do.

My favorite thing to do? If I happen to set off the alarm thingy on the way out, I run like hell with my cart to see if the old lady people greeter can catch me. You'd be surprised how fast some of those old ladies are. Cool

I am going to try this year. The soil here is mostly rocks and we have so many wild animals in the woods that I lose a lot of what I plant. I had cleared a large area a few years ago and had a garden that year, but that's where we ended up putting the shed a year later, so I haven't had the time or desire to clear a new spot for a garden.

You're making me jealous, Misti. I wish that we had a bigger yard so that we could have a garden. All I manage is some flowers and a couple of tomato plants.

Thankfully, my dad plants a garden and gives us some garden fresh veggies every year. There's nothing like them!

Now that's just mean. Funny, but mean. ROTFL

Oh, I would love to give a garden a try, but I'm not sure I have the green thumb for it. Plus, with our dogs running in the backyard, we'd have to fence it off somehow. We're thinking of getting a dog run for them though (I'm really tired of the yard getting dug up from their running), so hopefully one day I will be able to see if I can actually make a garden grow! Good luck with yours Misti and Cheryl! Thumbsup

(my neighbor behind me does have one..he's an elderly gentleman and it covers a HUGE portion of his backyard. I wish he'd share with us sometime Whistle , but I do like watching his garden grow. Wink )

We've crocuses and daffodils out at tthe moment and tulips ready to flower. I'm more into flowers than growing my own vegetables and apart from apples, our climate doesn't favour growing our own fruit.

Danged right; especially if we're on a mission. Friday we went once and then once again on Saturday. Sunday, we'll probaby go again.

Now, I'm not one of those that go down every isle and look; I get in and get out. If I don't have money, I don't see a reason to shop!

ROTFL I am always in fear that its gonna go off on me; in fact, a few weeks ago we had just bought something and I was like, "Just watch. It's gonna go off!" And sure enough, it did! It is so embarrassing! Your right; those old women and men may look frail but if they think your gonna steal something, watch out! They'll be after you with those handy motorized wheelchairs! Well, I dealt with fire ants, grass burrs and, on my breaks, amusing myself making dirt art grinsmiley but we got it planted!

Wow, Misti, that's great! (Not having to deal with fire ants, etc. . . . But it's great that you've finished the planting!) Around here, it'll be at least a month before any real planting can be done. We usually feel safe in putting in most plants on or shortly after Memorial Day. There are a few earlier plants. We won't have a large garden, because we don't have the space for it. But we'll plant what we can! Thumbsup

Now...the aftermath....my body hurts in places I didn't even know existed and I've got the reminders of the fire ants on my body, too!

I was sitting there, happily planting when they hit....anyone that drove by might have thought I was doing a dance! Oh well..no pain, no gain!

I gave the game, "Ants in the Pants" a new meaning! :shifty: grinsmiley

Oh no! It is always so much worse the next day. A nice soak in a tub of hot water should do you some good. I think that's the only part that I don't like about gardening.

Those darn ants. I hate that creepy, crawly feeling. *shudder* And those little bitty things hurt when they bite!
