This broke on our local news the other night and I was just stunned. These six girls beat this teenager for some perceived insult on MySpace, then videotaped the entire beating intending to put it on YouTube to further humiliate this young girl. This was a premeditated beating. They brought the videocameras for the express purpose of taping the beating and posting it on YouTube.

The local news interviewed a couple of the parents last night who were accusing the Sheriff of "trying to make a name for himself" by arresting these girls, and saying basically it was "no big deal."

When arrested, the girls had no remorse. They were laughing and joking.

The teenager who was beaten is recovering at home.

Quote:

Eight Florida teenagers -- six of them girls -- will be tried as adults and could be sentenced to life in prison for their alleged roles in the videotaped beating of another teen, the state attorney's office said Thursday.

The teenagers seen in a video assaulting a 16-year-old could face life in prison.

The suspects, who range in age from 14 to 18, all face charges of kidnapping, which is a first-degree felony, and battery, said Chip Thullbery, a spokesman for the Polk County state attorney. Three of them are also charged with tampering with a witness.

The video shows a brutal scene: The 16-year-old victim is punched, kneed and slapped by other girls. She huddles in the fetal position, or stands and screams at her attackers, but the assault continues. Authorities say the eight teens said they were retaliating for insults posted on the Internet by the attack victim.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd called the March 30 attack "animalistic."

"I've been involved in law enforcement for 35 years, and I've seen a lot of extremely violent events, but I've never seen children, 14 to 18 years of age, engage in this conduct for a 30-minute period of time and then make these video clips," he said. Police say the teens planned to post the video on YouTube.

Yes, I heard about that too. It seems you hear more and more about this kind of thing happening. It's a new trend that really needs to be stopped.

Then another day this week, on the Today Show (I believe it was yesterday morning), they showed an attack on a teacher, by a student, that was caught on tape while other students cheered the one student on. Only one student left to get help. The teacher was so shaken up that she doesn't ever want to return to that school.

soapbox
You know... it makes me wonder... us humans are not ready for the technology we have now.

Now you are able to videotape anything using small cameras and cell phones and then post them on the internet for the whole world to see. When people posts videos of beatings such as the cheerleader girl and the teacher... lots of other people seem to make the guy who posted the video popular by increasing his views and getting thousands of comments.... which in turn make the person do something else, tape another crazy thing and post it again and the public follows the same path.

It is just like the Paparazzi.... they invade the privacy of celebreties to a point that endangers their lives... but the paparazzi animals still do it because it is all about the money and popularity. They are not seeing humans when they photograph or videotape... they are seeing dollar signs and the people who buy and read the filthy magazines are making them richer!

This world is bad right now... and a lot of technology is used in a bad way. Greed is what rules the majority of people. People are not only like that with their fellow men, but with the animal world and planet earth as well! mad Because of greed, you see a lot of damage being done to the planet, because of greed you hear more and more of species extinction... greed... greed... greed..... but it WILL come to an end. God will intervene and put an end to all people who commit injustice and destroy the planet He created.

Until then, those of us who do care, will wait and hope that we don't become immune to the morals and suffering of certain things. Because we live in such a cruel world, the more we hear bad or terrible stories, the number we can get. Of course, we are not going to worry about every single bad thing we hear, if we did, we'd be a wreck... some things, we just have no control over... that's why I said that we just have to wait... until God brings justice. But there are things that hits us closer to home, things that we CAN do something about... let's not become immune to those things.

I will get off my soapbox now. lol
