Scary happenings today. There's a big forest fire outside of town, and we ended up having to evacuate my neighborhood. I believe it's under control now. We're back home, but the smoke is still very heavy. Here's a link...

Oh Rob!! How awful! I'm so glad that you're okay. How's Casey handling it? Is the smoke affecting your breathing?

Take care!

Casey's fine. Taking it all in stride. And my breathing is also fine. Luckily, I spent many years coating my lungs with a protective layer of tar and nicotine, so I'm immune to forest fire smoke. Whistle

Fire of any kind is SO scary. I remember as a kid looking out the back door and the neighbors house across the street was blazing. They lost everything including birds and a cat. BUT the amazing part was the entire community came together and gave the family a huge house warming (no pun intended) shower. They had a little girl in 1st grade at the time....and all of us kids bought her a new book bag (no backpacks then) full of school supplies and stuck in one extra thing.....a new kitty.
I'm sure your community will come together as well.
No playing with matches Rob! Wink

WOW Rob.....I am glad you and your Casey are ok. Thumbsup

I grew up in Southern California and fires were the norm around there. I can remember the mountains behind our house being on fire and coming straight towards our neighborhood. A few years back, that HUGE fire that was in the San Bernardino area, took out my old neighborhood. Only a few houses were left standing, mine being one of them. When I went back in March 2007 for my reunion, my sister and I drove around the old stomping grounds and many houses were still in crumbles and ashes........people just couldn't rebuild...it was so sad!! Glad you are ok! grinsmiley

How scary, Rob. I'm glad to hear you and Casey are doing well from it. I sure hope there're no damages to your house and your neighbors. Sheeesh, and they say smoking is bad for your lungs. Whistle

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. It's now 11 PM and all is quiet, so it looks like we dodged the bullet. They're saying we might get rain tonight. I sure hope so.

I hope so too Rob. Maybe you can do a little rain dance to make the rain come faster. :haha:

Glad to hear that you are safe and sound.
We had a fire in our chimney once when I was really little. My mom seemed calm but my brothers and I were really scared. We had to catch the cat and go out and sit in the car. The firemen came and put the fire out with very minimal damage.
One question, who is Casey? Glad he/she is ok too.

Whoa Rob!! That IS scary!! OhMy Geesh, we just don't get forest fires here in Michigan...I can't remember the last one we had, can you Rob? I mean, they're unheard of, right? I can't imagine having a vacation cottage on Lake Margrethe and wondering what the heck is happening up there! (That's such a pretty lake, BTW). Living there would be scary too, of course, but it would be hard to be 'out of the loop' too. Happy to hear they got it under control and you and everyone are ok! Thumbsup

LOL...nothing like yelling "FIRE!" to get your thread read! grinsmiley

The last really bad one we had up were was in the early '90s. Thousands of acres burned and dozens of homes were lost.

I was gonna title the thread "Everything's under control!", but it just didn't seem dramatic enough. batEyes

Yeah, definitely doesn't suit you, Rob! :haha: Now "FIRE!!" is drama!!

Hmm, I must have been in my own little world back in the early 90's because for the life of me I can't remember that! :shy: I guess that's what happens when you have little ones. Wink

And Casey is one of the names we thought about for our Golden mix, Chelsey! But then mommy ruled and was the deciding factor on my more 'girlish' name. batEyes
