Parvo and Molly don't mix

Our puppy, Molly, who is a Yellow Lab, has Parvo. She's my little brother's dog, and he has been very upset. (we all have been!) We've had a lab (our first lab) die of Parvo years ago, before my brother was born. The vet said she has a good chance, but she's going down hill fast. We've got her on the porch right now and have been making her drink water every 30 minutes. The vet said it's not the parvo we have to worry about, but dehydration. I'm saying prayers for Molly, Farmer Girl!

Thanks Rhonda and Rob. She's doing a little better. She got up about 30 minutes ago and was walking, even running around a little bit. We told the kids not to mess with her, that she needed her energy to get better, not play!
She goes through spells where she lays there, and doesn't even open her eyes when we give her the liquid, then gets up and runs around. It's kinda crazy.

I'm praying for Molly, too. My first dog, Mack, had Parvo, and was terribly sick - but she made it through. She lived to a happy, old age of 15.

To help keep her hydrated without fighting with her, you can try taking a wet washcloth and dripping the water onto her lips. She'll automatically lick it off. If you keep that up, she'll keep hydrated. Even little ones can help out with that.
And, of course, the less she plays, the better hydrated she'll stay right now. That's no easy task, though - keeping a puppy from playing!

By the way - she's gorgeous!!

I'm sorry to hear about Molly, Farmer Girl. We have had a couple of dogs go thru Parvo. It's just aweful. My husbands friend is a firm believer in giving a dog pepto bismol when they have Parvo. I'm not sure it works. He says it does. You may want to have your parents ask the vet. Molly will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'll keep your family in my prayers, too, Farmer Girl! We also had a dog that had parvo and I was the one that forced food down her her and did the same with water. She made it and I now your Molly will, too!!!

Poor Molly! I lost a puppy named Sabra to Parvo. Its so sad. Keep pushing the water. Love her and she will know she has to fight. Keep us updated.

Sorry I didn't get on Sunday or yesterday and tell you how she was doing. She's doing much better. This morning she playing, running around me feet and trying to bite my ankles. :woohooo:
We kept the fluids down her, even at one point every 10 minutes, when she got dehydratiated. She still doesn't want to eat much, but we bought her some canned food to tempt her. So, with a little more work, we'll be good to go!! :woohooo: :woohooo:

Oh, I'm sorry I missed this post, Farmer Girl! It was great reading such a great outcome to what was originally such a sad story!! I am so happy for Molly and for your family!! HORRAY!!! That picture of her almost looks like a poster of a dog! She is SOOOOOOO CUTE!! (LOL, it ALMOST makes me want another puppy...until I think about all the work! :haha: ).

I can hear her on the back porch right now tipping her water bucket over and playing with it! She's back to crazy, uncontrolable Molly!!
