Least Favorite Season

I say season 9 is my least favorite season. Wasn't the same without the Ingalls family. I don't like seeing another family living in the Ingalls house.

Same here...Not having Charles and Caroline around was not an intelligent decission from Michael Landon.If he was tired of running LHOTP he should have cancelled it , instead of making up the Carters and put them inside Ingalls's house in Plum Creek...

I agreed with Vanesa. Seeing the Carter family in the Ingalls house. It was not the same. When I watch season 9, last year. Anytime, I see the house. I feel like, their was a miss. It was the Ingalls family. So, I'm not crazy of rewaching the whole thing. Maybe 1 or 2 episodes. (maybe not that either.)

I agree with Vanessa that if Michael Landon didn't want to act anymore on the show, then season 8 should have been the last season. Instead of bringing in The Carter family, the show should have focused on Laura&Almanzo and they could have moved into the Ingalls house.

I agree that Season 9 is probably the worst. If I had to disregard Season 9 and pick another season, I would pick season 7. I'm not sure why, but I just don't love that season. I think it's because Laura's age is a little awkward then: the kind of age that is not young but not old.

I'll like see Laura & Almanzo moved into the Ingalls house. Not have the Carters family. I think, Season 9 will been better with no Carter family. Laura & Almanzo, lived in Ingalls house. Not adding Jenny or other characters wasnt from the real Laura Ingalls time.

Yes...I don't know why Michael Lando wouldn't allow Almanzo and Laura to move to former Ingalls house. I wish it had ben that way.

That's a good idea--having Laura and Almanzo move into the Ingalls' house. It's too bad they didn't do that. I couldn't stand the Carters, and I tend to love the new characters they put on the show! (Minus Jenny.) I really could never warm up to the Carters, and they seemed like such cheap ripoffs of Ma and Pa.

I liked Jenny.She was a cuite add to the show.(Well that's what i think) I didn't mind the carters. I just think the carters were kind of boring.Seasons 9 is okay.But it doesn't have Esp you can really enjoy watching over and over again!!!

I never saw it as Michael losing interest in the show as much as I saw it as a way for him to display his belief in Melissa as a leading lady. Dean has spoken about this before. There was definitely pressure placed on Melissa and him to make it work without the Ingalls family there. I think Melissa mentioned it at some point too, how Michael told her she could do this, but with that underlying tone of don't embarrass me.

I'm glad Laura and Almanzo didn't move into the house on Plum Creek. The house they were in symbolized Almanzo's commitment to his family after his paralysis. That's why it bothered me so much toward the end of the season when they had Beth and Manly move into the boarding house. I couldn't believe they would ever leave it based upon how much they went through to reconstruct their lives in Days of Sunshine, Days of Shadow. I thought Mr. Edwards would have been a good person to move into the Ingallses' old place. I didn't mind the Carters, but I would have preferred they move into a house closer to town. Sarah's belongings always seemed out of place in that tiny home.

It would have been nice to see the Ingalls family one more time before they left. Maybe it was cost prohibitive, but it was odd the way they all disappeared after James's miraculous recovery.

You are right. They were not farmers...so, what was the use to move them to a FARM??

The only logical explanation, in my mind, was that they could give Charles the cash he needed to make his move to Burr Oak. Laura and Almanzo weren't really in a position to do that--and I doubt Charles would have taken money from them anyway. If we are to go along with the opening narration that stated times were tough for Charles and his growing family, he would have needed to sell the house to someone who could afford to give him what the land was worth. From the Carters' perspective, it made no sense at all. Both of them worked in town. They were business owners--John, the livery and Sarah, the paper--and historically would live in town. Isaiah seemed to be the best choice to own the house, but what would he have done with all that room?

Yes, Mr Edwards' probably couldn't have afforded it. I thought Albert and then maybe a wife, but he had plans for him that were different. (or maybe Matthew did)

I always felt having strangers live in the house was just weird, the show was Little House, it was the Ingall's home and it would have been nice if someone could have stayed that was family. I heard so many people back then say it lost it's magic the last years, I liked some but it was different, I was excited anytime Charles made an appearance.

It's easy to Monday morning quarterback, but I do feel Mr. Landon was ready to move on and hoped Melissa could carry it without him, but I remember at the time, his appearances with Albert, were ratings boosters.

The ratings weren't in the toilet but this shows quite a drop:
Season Seven: 1980-81

I never really thought about that..the farm part was never used? I guess I just assumed the way Charles worked at the mill and farmed, so did Mr. Carter.
I don't think Mr. Edwards would have trouble with room in the Little House, he had 2 rooms, I remember with doors, when Matthew was there and who knows, they might have with that change in script, given him a chance with someone he could stay with.

I think fans let go easier when there is a wrap-up. So many fans weren't sure about what happened to anyone, where did they go, what town, how did they survive in between? It might have fit Mr. Landon's wrap-up, he didn't want certain things to happen, but not for people with their hearts part of the show.

The other long running shows that ended had emotional wrap ups also, even shows like ER, The Waltons's had movies showing characters, etc.
I remember being shocked as buildings blew but then wondering (not that LHOP was ever good with consistency) where is everyone going?? How did the Oleson's move all their stuff beforehand? The questions went on and on.

I just mentioned that idea in another post somewhere, too, i.e. that Laura and Almanzo could have moved into the Little House. But then I suppose they would need a reason to not be living in their own house.
