I love watching the Olympics, especially the Summer Olympics. My favorite event is women's gymnastics. Be on the look-out for Shawn Johnson! She is 16 years old and from my hometown of West Des Moines, Iowa. She is the US favorite to win the individual gold medal on the floor or beam exercise. All gymnasts just amaze me with their talent. 8/8/08 is almost here! Enjoy!!

Yes, Danielle, I did watch the tryouts. The beam routines make me so nervous. I don't know how these girls are able to do all that they do on that thing! LOL!!

Nothing quite beats gymnastics... Carly Patterson beating out Svetlana Khorkina in Athens... the Magnificent Seven of the 96 Games winning the team gold. I even had Dominique Moceanu write an autograph "To Coach Jon" ... good times. Certainly among the best offerings of the Summer Games, by far.

And since we're on the subject, the Gym Dawgs are now FOUR TIME consecutive NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!! Cool

We are supposed to have a couple of people over, and we will be eating Quiznos sandwiches celebrating the reopening of the Quiznos restaurant nearby... :haha:
I saw some cute Olympics decorated cakes at the store this morning... maybe I'll get one of those for desert... happy1

Hey, I have a "claim to fame"....sorta! There is a guy competing in the track & field; high jump. He's from LaVernia, near San Antonio, TX and has family in Smiley, TX, about 16 miles down the road from us here in Leesville.

There is a woman that writes a column called the "Smiley News" and the guy's family submits info on him for years. His sister, Aimee, is into track & field, too.

Anyway, his name is Dusty Jonas and he is a Nebraska Cornhusker. So be on the lookout! SmileyCentral.com

Gymnastics is an insane sport! Most sports I can at least kind of imagine doing, but I'm always in complete awe when I see kids doing the balance beam, floor exercises, etc. It's amazing to watch.

The beam scares the bejeebers out of me!! I couldn't even imagine doing any of those big moves. The flips are so dangerous. It's hard for me to watch at times.
