This afternoon, we had a couple of wild storms come through. (It's still storming, but not nearly as bad) Well, it knocked the power out for almost six hours, and it was so dark outside that it looked like it was nearly nighttime already! So, I sketched by the window light for as long as I could. Then, I played the piano by candlelight for a while. You know, it's amazing how much atmosphere soft thunder in the background can add to piano music. grinsmiley

Well, around seven o'clock, it was so dark, and quiet, I was ready to go to sleep! No wonder the pioneers went to bed so early! Seriously, I could have gone to bed, and fallen asleep right then! BUT............shortly before nine, our power came back on!! :woohooo: Cheer happy1

And you know what? I found out that a power outage is a lot less fun without children in the house. It's a lot more fun to "play pioneer" when children are there to play along with. batEyes

I love that sound. I actually own a CD that has piano songs w/ thunderstorm in the background. Very neat. Thumbsup

Yes, power outages are fun for children. My son loves to sit out on our front porch to watch it storm. I have childhood memories of doing the same...

Oh Savannah, my hubby was driving home in that storm! You got hit so much worse than we did here. (We had storms, but nothing major). In fact, Bill is on his way home right now----no power at work! It stinks that they didn't call him early enough this morning to let him know about it! He was already 3/4 of the way there when they called! :sad5:

Oh gasp, Amy!! I'm so glad that Bill got home safely. I can't even imagine driving in that storm. I was at work during the worst part of it, so by the time I drove home, it was down to a dull roar.

I'm incredibly thankful that our power is back on. There are so many people who still have no utilities. Well over 100,000 people in the state!

And it really does stink that work didn't call him early enough so that he could have saved the gas and time in driving nearly all the way to work, when he wouldn't have had to. No That's a lot of gas!

I heard on the news today that the hardest hit areas may not see their power back on til Saturday! Poor things!

That sounds like you had a nice adventure! lol
I don't mind it when the power is out, the only thing that get annoying is I keep flipping light switches on, and then can't figure out why they won't work!

Ha! Yes, I did the same thing several times, Farmer Girl! We have some of those old metal lanterns with a handle on them, and I needed to fill them with lamp oil and trim their wicks just in case the power was going to be off for quite a while. (Plus it was getting REALLY dark, even though it was only 7:00!) Well, I kept flipping the light switch every time I'd go in the kitchen. :Hahaha: At least I'm not alone in being lead by force of habit!

I do the same thing! Back in late January early December we lost power for a whole day, it finally came back on around 8 that night when it was already dark. It's always an adventure. When I was little and the power went out, I can remember trying to read by flashlight. I also used to do that with the flashlight hidden under my covers, when I supposed to be sleeping, LOL.
