I just keep thinking i was one of the first generation of teens to use net ( think i did't use net intill high school) even then the net wasn't that "big yet" it's like i grew up and got to see how much like comptures changed, cell phones ECT!

Like The Ipods, i -phones did't come out intill afther!

Like so many things have changed!

I remember the good days when we used cd players/wal-mens lol..videos instead of DVDS

LOL Boy am I feeling a little old. I remember getting records/lps when I was a kid and my first real rock one being Blondie. I remember what computers were like well before the internet was around. We had a couple different types and how the games were on them. LOL Also there was no cellphones like today. Have you ever seen some of those old 80s movies with someone using one? LOL They are giant. I still believe that kids in school do NOT need these things. We lived with out that stuff. There was no ipods and mp3 players as well. It was all about the boombox. LOL There are many things I miss from when I was a kid that there isn't now. And my Grandma is still around and she is in her late 80s. To think of all she has seen over her life time. Oh and btw, I remember when video games started too. The original Nintendo (which I loved and still would if I had it) and even before that the Colecovision that we had and with it an Atari attachment to play those games on.

I have definetely seen the computers change. I started working with computers in 7th grade. I remember it was an Apple computer and the only colors were black and green, or gray and blue... whatever.... it looked like this:

I've been thinking....How i miss the good old days! Apple_IIe_1

It was pretty crazy and I remember my friends and I always trying to find new tricks to do on the computer and play around with it.... and now... sheesh... there are so many graphics and pictures and videos and the internet... it's just a completely different level .... Type

I know this is a little off the subject, but honestly though... one reason why people say, "Things were a lot better back in the good old days" is because we remember our childhood, when we were kids... and when you're a kid, everything is new and we remember the first time we did this or that. Or for people in their 70s they remember the days of their youth, when they were strong and had all kinds of fun. But Charles Dickens once said: "These are the best of times, these are the worst of times". So, any decade, the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc... all had good and bad in them. Sure, everyone has nice things they can remember about their "good ole days" decade, but if they are honest, they will also remember that bad things happening in those times. For example, sure in the 50s, someone can say days were better because life was like a Leave it to Beaver episode or something, but in those times black people were not allowed to ride the bus in the front seats or go to the same classes as whites, they were denied the high education whites were getting in schools.... so for african americans, the "good old days" actually came later...

I used to reminisce about my "good old days".... and usually when I did, it made living in today's society a little tougher to deal with because we can all see the things that have happened in this world and I wish so much that I could be taken back in time to the 'good old days', but actually, I was thinking I could be taken back in time to that happy moment I was reminiscing about or about that special thing I remember getting that day, etc... , not really the entire decade.... and so my attitude about "The Good old Days" changed that moment. Yes, life is a little less courteus in general today... but there is also a lot of good in today's decade as well.... I mean, life is what you make it... I love waking up in the morning not knowing what I'm gonna do or who I'm gonna meet. Just yesterday I was sleeping under a bridge, and today I'm on the grandest liner in the world drinking champagne with you fine people :cheers16:..... okay sorry, got a little carried away ROTFL grinsmiley
But what I'm trying to say.... I no longer believe the idea of "Things were better in the good old days" anymore.... it is actually all about fun things, new products, and most of all special moments in time that happened 20, 10 years ago or yesterday.

Carol, I understand what you are saying. I remember bad times and good. I think for me though I see the changes that are not just good ones but there are some bad ones that I wish would change but its not things I have control over. Example, those that are the type of parents that let the kids run wild no matter what age and then the kids end up with no respect to others. I could go on and on. There are good as well. We have so many different options for entertainment (computer, video games, amusement parks, places to just go out and enjoy as a family, etc). Times do change in many ways. Good, bad and all. We just work through the bad and enjoy what the good.

Anna, this is exactly what I was going to come on and say! OhMy I agree with you too, Carol...there is so much truth in what you're saying, but honestly, when I think of the "good old days", my mind goes straight to the difference in parenting and to how kids acted back in the day. There are little 4 years olds out there now thinking they rule all. It has really gotten bad. My mom worked in the school system since I was 8 years old, and she can't even get over the decline in respect for elders over the years. I'm not saying kids and parenting were perfect back then, but obviously they were doing something right because there weren't the issues there are now. There were "drive-ins" not "drive-bys" back then. In this way, the 'future' hasn't turned out so hot. I appreciate our technological advancements too, and I love that my son is being offered such a fabulous education and literally can do whatever he wants to do. But I would have to say that our culture right now, as stands, is nothing to be proud of. We have become an 'instant gratification' society, parents overindulging at young ages and kids having 'entitlement' issues that they didn't have 'back in the day'. I'm ultra-sensitive right now I guess---one of my hubby's good friends has a teenage daughter who literally beat her mom up just a few days ago. Her mom told her that her friends all needed to leave their house because it was 1am, and in return her daughter called her every name in the book (the big ones) and when the mother slapped her, the daughter punched her own mother repeatedly in the face. I guess she literally looks like two-face right now. This is just not stuff that went on "back in the good old days". I think it's very sad that we've improved so much technologically, and yet we've become a very spiritually desensitized and emotionally (and economically) deprived nation otherwise.
