I thought it would be neat for those of us who play, or are learning to play an insturment, to tell what we are learning to play. I know Savannah plays the piano, but I don't really know if anyone else here plays anything. I do like talking to others who play, though.

I play the piano, and a little fiddle. I havn't took lessons for the fiddle for about a year now, but I've been playing the piano since I was 7. I'm also the paino player for our small chuch. (We have 4 familys coming....)

Right now I'm learning 'Our Great Saviour' (which is mixed with 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.')from the book Amazing Grace. I just finished Near the cross, and I can play Amazing Grace out of the same book. You can look at sample pages of the songs on the website.

So what about you guys???

Farmer Girl, do you remember the name of the company that publishes that book, or the website's name? That sounds like a beautiful combination of hymn & classic.

I'm still working on advancing my organ playing skills. Once you throw your feet into the business, it changes things a bit. I figured that since I'm a classically trained pianist, that playing the organ should be no big deal. But it has a totally different touch to it. And balance is a major part of playing it, too.

I wish I could play the guitar, but it makes my hands hurt.

I had tried it for a few months, but it made my hands too stiff to play some of the more complicated runs and such on the piano. So, I decided to give it up. Now I just listen instead. grinsmiley

Savannah, The only thing I know about the book is the link in my first post. You click on 'amazing grace' and it takes you to the website of the publishers. My piano teacher bought it for me. Did the link work for you? If not, I'll post it again.

It is a nice combanation. I love both songs, so I've been praticing it alot! lol My teacher told me not to forget my onther songs, though.

I would like to learn to play the organ, but the only one I know of is at our church, which we drive an hour to get to. I still like the piano much better, though. I love hearing the paino and fiddle together.

Piano for me also. My girls play the piano, clarinet and flute. My Mom plays the violin. When my Dad was still alive, he used to always joked that he would be the conductor...because he didn't play any instrument. :haha:

Savannah, My Aunt Daisy plays the organ in church and at home, her husband Paul is a Pastor. When I see her playing the organ with both upper and lower levels of keyboards, plus her feet tapping, it's just unbelievable because I sure can't do it...too confusing for me. lol Huh?

If you click on the link below, the bottom picture is my Aunt Daisy (my Mom's older sister) and her hubby, Paul. grinsmiley

Lily, when my siblings get older I hope they will all play instrumnents, so we can play together. My mom would have to be the conductor in our family! lol My Dad used to could play the piano very well, but he hasn't praticed in ages.

Oh, that's a beautiful arrangement, Farmer Girl! If you're in need of some piano books, let me know. I'm often being given books, and sometimes end up with doubles. I also have some pieces that are out of print, and can safely be copied without infringing on copyright laws.
