I'm watching the Oscars "Live on the Red Carpet" on "E" with Lisa Rinna. Um, has anyone SEEN her?????? Her face is completely bloated and you can see that part of her face is paralyzed when she tries to show emotion(probably from Botox or sth). Weren't the lips enough?? I mean, here is a beautiful woman, and she just can't stop doing stuff to her gorgeous face???? Why can't women set an example to young girls and other women and show them that it's OK to age gracefully and naturally and just be yourself?? I just find it almost depressing that women are going to these extremes. I don't know the 'story' on Lisa so forgive me if something has happened that's out of her control, but from where I'm sitting it looks like a classic case of too much 'work'. Opinions? What do you all think about having 'work' done?

I totally agree with you, Amy! These women start doing work (a lot of which they don't need in the first place) and they just keep going...and going. There was a daytime actress, Hunter Tylo (Bold & the Beautiful) that she was gorgeous years ago but she has been messing with her lips and such and it looks totally unnatural. I guess they think they look good??? A little something is one thing but they seem to go crazy.

Yes, I know Hunter Tylo! Back 'in the day' I used to watch all the CBS soaps and she was gorgeous! But I have seen her more recently and I totally know what you mean, Misti. I just don't get it! :think:

I didn't recognize her either. Barry Manilow has done so much to his face he can barely move it to sing. There was a recent interview with Suzanne Somers where she says she downs 60 pills a day and injects things into body parts I can't even mention here to stay young. The other day my hubby stood over me at the kitchen sink and lifted a piece of hair off my head and inspected it. "Yeah, it's gray, so what," I said. At the rate my hair grows, I would have to dye it every 3 to 4 weeks; so he should be happy that I won't make us go broke to pamper my vanity.

I can't say that I haven't considered slimming down my nose or increasing the size of other things, but a) I'm too scared and b) should I really mess with one of God's creations?

The last few times that I have seen Lisa, her lips were so full and stiff, they wouldn't hardly move to form her words. I can't even watch her talk. Joan Rivers is another one who has had so many surgeries to try to stay young looking. She has even done a Geico commercial where she made fun of her face. ("I'm so happy for you, I'm smiling!" ***touches face, and asks herself, 'am I smiling?'*** We have a lady here in town that once was my sister in law's boss; till she went on to be a State Representative, and my s-i-l said that she had come in one day after having some form of face lift, and her face was SO tight, they were afraid it was going to split. I just couldn't imagine doing that. :scratch:

If God wanted us to change ourselves that way he would have made us ugly to begin with. (BUT he didn't!) We live in a world that has low self-esteem and is constantly cutting each other down because of looks.
I think we(our forum here) have such an advantage because we don't look at each other physically every day. We look into each others hearts first.
Yes, its such a treat to see each other from time to time and even more to hug that special friend, BUT its such a treasure to know what people are made of instead of what is on the outside.
There are alot of people missing out by "seeing" what is only on the outside.

Um, all this said....Cheryl, I do color my grey. grinsmiley For me, that's where the 'gracefully' comes in to the 'aging' part of it. batEyes But I hear you about the expense...I have mine done every 5 weeks, and use a touch up' kit in between, on the roots at the crown. With my dark hair every white hair is seen, and I have a LOT...I started going grey at age 17! OhMy Maybe someday I will stop coloring, but I think I'd have to be at least 60 to feel that way. Wink

I couldn't agree with you more, Amy. My Grandma was a model as a young woman, so for her, aging is synonymous with "unattractive". She has always tried very hard to look younger than she is. (When I was a little girl, she didn't even like to be called "Grandma"!) My Mom, on the other hand, has always felt that there is beauty in every stage of life. And if we're always grasping for what was, we're going to miss what is. Life is so short, it would be a shame to spend all of it looking back and wishing for what can't be found. There is no fountain of youth, we're all going to eventually grow old if we're blessed with a long life. We'd be better off living every day to the fullest, even if it makes wrinkles on our faces as we go - rather than spending a fortune on prevention, and staring in the mirror, worrying and waiting for another wrinkle to appear.

I read this a while back, and thought of it after reading this thread. It was attributed to Audrey Hepburn, but apparently it wasn't something that she wrote, but rather, something that she found inspiring:

    I have read this before, and I feel it is as it should be. All these people doing all these things to their bodies will continue till they are old and ready for the grave and will be like stiff plastic in the casket!!! affraid

    I have to wonder what the Good Lord will say one day at the pearly gates, to these men and women who so drastically have changed their appearance. Perhaps, "Did I not make you beautiful enough, in your opinion?" "Did you believe I made a mistake?" "Were you so void of love and self worth that you had to alter what I created? I was here for you all along." :think: Just some thoughts.....this quite simply cannot be acceptable to God.

    I think this is the time where I can post this joke :haha:

    A 75 year old woman had a vision one night, and in the vision she saw and spoke to God. She asked him, "How much time do I have to live?" God said, "You have 35 years left." So that whole year she had a ton of cosmetic surgery -- a face lift, a tummy tuck, her nose reshaped and liposuction. She completely did herself over. She figured as long as she was going to live another 35 years she was going to look young again. After all this was done, that same year she was hit by a car and was killed instantly. When she entered the pearly gates she walked over to God and said, "What happened? I thought you said I had another 35 years!"
    God replied, "I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE YOU!"
