In order to be licensed for daycare, I have to be certified in CPR, and have to take the first aid and CPR training every couple of years through the American Red Cross. I just had to go through my refresher course today (scheduled from 9-5, but I got out an hour early Thumbsup ), and I'm always amazed at how good it feels once I get through the class. This is the kind of thing everybody should have training in...it feels so good to have the knowledge under your belt.

Has anyone else taken the course before? And has anyone ever had to use CPR before?

I learned CPR a couple of years ago in health class, it was a requirement to pass the course. I should learn again though, because my certification expired and like Amy said, it's a good thing to know!

I agree. Everyone should be taught CPR. It's one of those things you never know when you're gonna need.

Yes, I have to take it every year since I also work in the childcare field. Thankfully, I have never had to use it.

I took it a long, long time ago as part of a babysitting course when I was a teen. I really should go get certified again. I never used it before, but I did have to perform the Hymlic on my son when he was two, something I also learned in that course.

>>Wow, scary Cheryl! Glad the Hymlic worked!! We learned how to do that too in this class...again, it's something I knew, but it helps to have the refresher.

Yes, I don't know why it is every year now. I know when I first started taking it, way back when, it was always good for two years. Now, it expires after a year. I don't know if it's different between the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. I go with the American Red Cross. I do agree, it is overkill. I think every couple of years is good, just as a refresher, and to be up to date on any changes. My first aid training, however, is good for three years now.

I had to take CPR and first aid every year for lifeguarding. Then when I worked in a doctor's office and a sports club I had to to CPR. It does feel good to go take the course. I never had to give CPR but I did have to make a few rescues in the swimming pool. I need to get CPR certified again.

I've taken the course a looooong time ago at a summer camp. Thankfully I never had to use it...but it is good to be re-certified...for you never know. :fyi:
