“Money Crop”

"MONEY CROP" Acorn

A new farmer, Joe, in Walnut Grove convinces the other farmers to buy seed from him. While he is on the way back to Walnut Grove, he is in an accident and gets trapped underneath the wagon. When Joe doesn't return, the farmers get suspicious that they got in on a bad deal.

"MONEY CROP" Report This is an interesting episode. I hated how those men acted… they didn’t even give the new guy a chance or think that maybe something must have happened to him… no.. they say the most idiotic things like for example that he left w/ their money and left his pregnant wife. I’m so glad Mary told those men off!
I don’t understand what made the horses start running faster when Joe was coming back to town with the seed. All of a sudden they start running fast, and they don’t listen to his command… does anyone know?
I liked the ending… that HAD to happen… it was only fair to them… I’m glad the men saw how dumb they behaved and planted Joe’s crops. Enjoyed this episode…. Thumbs up Thumbsup

I can't stand those awful men! I love seeing Mary tell them off too. I felt terrible for Joe and his wife. She must have been so frightened not knowing what had happened to him. I'm glad Charles finally found him though. It was a little creepy at some parts, with him talking to the rocking horse. But in the end, I liked how the townsmen came together to help Joe out. Thumbsup

I've always liked this one. Just wish that some of these couples had been in more than one episode. I like how Mary reacted too. Laura's not the only one with some spunk!

This is a good episode, and I like how feisty the girls are and even Mrs. Oleson gets after those men with her broom!!! :haha:

Just a little trivia for those who might not know.....

Thumbsup Actress Julie Cobb plays Trudy Coulter in this story, She was married to Victor French in the middle 1970's.

I can understand the men being upset....after all, they were concerned about their own families. But they did seem to jump to conclusions pretty fast. However, at least they seemed truly remorseful by the end of the episode and did something to show their remorse.

I was surprised by Mary's outburst.....sweet little Mary...you go, girl!

I also could not understand why the horses went running off like that and the guy could not control them or slow them down. If they had been spooked by something, then I could understand, but it just seemed like they went crazy.

Mrs. Oleson seems to have already softened up a bit by this episode. She seemed so nice to Mrs. Coulter and even somewhat to Mary and Laura. And I thought she was funny the way she was so angry with the men using foul language (which I don't think we heard) outside of her store!

Mary was sweet, even angelic, but she was bright and had a good soul, whithout mentioning how brave she was! She was not afraid to tell those men what she thought. HeeHee

As for Mrs. Oleson, she was not really bad. She could be pretty snobbish, but not mean!

The horses could have behaved pretty wildly, yes. Sometimes, horses does. They could have been scared for weather issues or some noise they could have heard but not human beings- scratchead

Vanesa.

Did they ever have a good corn crop? I was trying to remember on this show, did Charles ever really have a good year...kind of unbelievable to not have a bumper crop once. Smile
There were the grasshoppers, the hail, the heavy, unceasing rain, the tornado, and even Laura had a drought.
Farming is hard, but come on...give them one good year. lol

One year the Garveys had a good crop. They were eating dinner when the barn caught on fire. I think that was in the episode "The High Cost of Being Right", not "Barn Burner" as I first thought. I think Charles was at the mill talking about what a good crop he had when Jonathan told him that his barn burned.

I just watched the episode "The Long Road Home". In this episode, Charles and Isaiah had bumper corn crops, but the market was so saturated that they only got 7 cents a bushel instead of the 34 cents a bushel they got the year before. To compensate, they took the dangerous job hauling blasting oil.

I watched this again tonight while doing some exercising (beats watching 20-somethings telling you how great you're doing) I liked how the neighbors got together in the beginning and had a picnic, I wish you saw more of that in other shows. The emotions showed were true to what many would have thought, some never thinking Mr. Coulter could be bad, others it's the first and only thing to cross their minds.
I liked also how Mary told the guys off, coming from her and not Laura or Nellie made it a stronger reproach.

I think the first year had many gems and this was another.

I like this episode. Those men were awful. They're only thinking about their crop. Saying Joe took the money and run off. Left his pregnant wife. Did they go search for him? No, just gossiping about Joe, which wasn't true. Making Trudy all upset, almost loose her unborn baby. Seeing Harriet being on the nice side. She really cared about Trudy and the girls. (I'm sure, they're other episodes of Harriet being nice.) Mrs. Ingalls and the girls help out at Joe & Trudy's house.

I wish, they're were more episode of them. Wondering, if they've a baby boy or girl.

I saw this episode on tv. Not one of the men, went to looked for Joe. All they did was gossip about Joe. Charles Ingalls knew that was something wrong. Hitch up his team, to looked for Joe. He kept searching him until Charles found Joe. Charles didn’t wonder, when Joe is coming back. He went out and search for him, when Joe didn’t come back his usual time.
