I wish I'd had my camera with me! There was a gorgeous winter rainbow today. It didn't curve across the sky, like a normal rainbow does. It was so awesome. It looked like a bit of heaven was breaking through the sky, brushing the endless white snow with a touch of hope for spring.

So beautiful!

PostSubject: A Beautiful Rainbow   Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:05 am

It rained earlier today. I was in the backyard when I noticed the rainbow colors.

I went to the front of the house and before my eyes was the most beautiful rainbow I had seen in my entire life!!! loveheart I felt like I was in a dream. With the sun making that golden glow on the rooftops. I went back inside the house to get my camera and began taking shots.

You can see my mom by the door yelling at me to get inside because it was still sprinkling a little bit... but I needed to capture this! lol

I could NOT capture the whole thing... I did make this photo to give you an IDEA of what the whole thing kind of looked like... I just kind of stitched some photos together so the picture is not accurate at all... but to give you an idea of the perfect arch I had before my eyes... lol

Cloud 9 I love rainbows...

The mistake I made was that when I took the middle picture... I just shot the top of the rainbow arch and not the bottom! So, I was not able to stitch it together perfectly and that's why the middle bottom of the pic is just stuff I photoshopped lol.

I tell ya, I felt like I was in a dream. The air smelled so clean, it was sprinkling just a little, I kept wiping my camera lol And the sun setting behind me gave this golden look to everything... it was so surreal.

I remembered this poem...

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
-Robert Frost

PostSubject: The "upside-down rainbow"   Wed Apr 13, 2011 4:18 pm

When I was driving home early this afternoon, my Mom said that she thought she could see a rainbow - but the sun was shining brilliantly, and we hadn't had a drop of
rain.....so at first we both thought she was mistaken. Then it became brighter, and she said, "I do! I see a rainbow!"...So I stopped the vehicle, because I wanted to see the rainbow-on-a-sunny-day. Sure enough! There it was! A rainbow, clear as day! Only.....It looked upside-down. Seriously! Instead of the arc being at the TOP of the rainbow, it was at the bottom! It looked like this:

It was completely amazing!! I'd never seen anything like it before, or even heard of anything like that before! So when we got home, I googled it to find out what could cause an inverted rainbow. Turns out it isn't a rainbow at all! It's a circumzenithal arc, which, according to the page I was reading is "a rare atmospheric spectacle" and is caused by the sunlight shining through a thin, invisible screen of ice crystals at a high altitude. HOW COOL IS THAT!! I was so totally fascinated!
