I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

That is great Julia. I think animals do think of us as something to work on, and make happy. They show it by how they keep track of us all the time. Its so sad to think that as hard as they work to do that they are often the ones that are mishandled.
Hugs your animals today and let them know they are doing a great job with you!!

It is the lack of Christianity that has brought us where we are. Not a lack of churches or religious forms but of the real thing in our hearts. LIW.....Words From a Fearless Heart

Thank you very much. A friend of mine sent that to me and I thought it was worth sharing with you all. I thank you God everyday for my dog, cats, and lil' gerbils.....they are a blessing to me and keep my family and I company. Smiley Hug

It really is sad how they are so abused. cryB

That's beautiful, Julia. And very true. I've known some very sad, lonely people whose whole outlook changed when a little pet came into their lives.

Yes indeed! I remember after my Grandmother passed away in February. We had Esther, our dog, and our two cats Midnight and Sweetie-Pie. They were such a comfort to me. Then we decided to get Mr. Whiskers and G.W. McKlintock, my gerbils. They are such darlings and bring so much joy to me.

I really like your profile photo Miss Savannah....is that your cat?

There's nothing like The Andy Griffith Show to give you a good laugh and a bunch of quotables at the same time.

Well, I watched it as a kid during its original run. Yup, I'm just that old. I don't remember much about it from back then, though. I started watching again when it came out in reruns during the '80s.

That is so beautiful. I love that it's written from the dog's view. I wish I could adopt a houseful of them, but sadly, two shelter dogs will have to do. Smile I wish more people would think to give a shelter dog (or cat) a second chance, rather than go for the expensive purebreds. So often, it's the most minor thing that can make a person waiver from adopting a shelter pet....many times it could be corrected with only a little bit of training.

SO true. I love that more facilities bring in 'therapy dogs' for the elderly....they can be such a source of comfort. We all need to 'nurture' something, especially older people whose children and grandchildren are grown. My mom and dad adopted a dog from our "Animal Control" about 8 months ago....with my mom's grandchildren all grown now, "Sophie" has taken up residence as the apple of my mother's eye now. loveheart Sophie had a difficult past (she's a small dog, but was an 'outdoor' dog' and was obviously neglected No) , but has been re-trained is, and although she's 'needy' still, she has found the right owners who enjoy giving her all the love and attention she needs. She's great therapy for both my parents too. Studies show that just the act of stroking a pet can result in fewer health problems, such as lowering high blood pressure and lowering high cholesterol. Amazing! yes

Being there when it is happening is the best place to be Rob! You witnessed history! grinsmiley

I remember visiting my Grandfather at the nursing home he stayed for just a few years and some people came in with a collie dog. They would take the dog around and visited the elderly that stayed there. Well, it was amazing how my Grandfather's face lit up and how happy he seemed when he pet the dog. My Grandparent's were animal lovers and even one of the dogs that the owned was a collie named Duke. Sadly, some robbers came to the house and poisoned the dog and raided the house.... cryB

Animals are such a blessing.... Love
