Jacob, here's the official GED site. Check the FAQ. It looks quite informative. It tells about what's covered in the test, and tells you where you can go to take it. (I peeked - it covers reading, writing, social studies, math, and science.)

There are books out there to help you study to take your GED. They provide sample questions so you know what to expect.

Good luck, Jacob!

Hey Jake, long time no see!

I don't understand why you're wanting to get out of school so fast because A) No factory will hire someone under 18, because they aren't allowed to operate machinery, nor can a restaurant hire you for certain jobs, and B) It would severely hurt your chances of going to a quality college.

Also, with the proper education, no one would need to explain it to you. You'd already know.

I quit high school (or whatever your equivalence is) my senior year, because I was in a hurry to be a man. It cost me a scholarship to a prestigious school for writing and a career in journalism.

You may have good reasons I don't know or haven't read yet, but it'd be nice for us to see you make it through those final years. Heck, maybe you'd do something famous and we could get your autograph. greenS

I agree with Larry. Also, the GED is going to be tough to pass, and you're going to need to have that knowledge under your belt. Do you know, there are a lot of online high school programs too? You take the same classes you would at school, with an online teacher...it's the same kind of thing as what colleges offer. Some kids actually learn better this way. I just wanted you to know there are options out there other than rushing to take your GED. Jacob, my advice to you is to schedule and appointment to meet with your high school counselor....he or she can help guide you in the direction that's most suitable for you. Good luck with whatever you choose to do Jacob! Smile

Thanks about the family thing Jake, it means a lot coming from you. You and I have been brothers from the beginning.

But high school would teach you whatever English you lack. You're obviously highly intelligent, and able to accomplish whatever you decide to do.

Maybe it would be in your best interest to go to high school. Your English is better than many I've seen, and they spoke it as a first language. It'd be kinda like being an exchange student..you'd take English, but as a second language. If your English isn't good enough for other classes, they could bring in an interpreter to help, or a tutor.

Besides, if you're still where you were, the GED is going to be in English anyway. I passed it, but that was 21 years ago, and English was my first language. And the test has gotten harder.

But I did take German and Spanish. The wording will probably be bad, but I don't wanna cheat by using an interpreting site...

"Mein Verstand sagt mir, aufgeben, aber mein Herz lässt mich nicht."

My teacher taught me that, and it's the only quote I remember in German. Remember it buddy. Smile

I couldn't agree more. Thumbsup Anyone who can come on a board and write as well as you do in a second language obviously has some serious abilities. Don't underestimate yourself Jacob. No

Again, well said, Larry. And yep, it would be just like being a foreign exhange student, I would think. You really need to sit down with a counselor, Jacob. If I may be so bold to say this, I think you're basing your possible decisions on the fear that you're not smart enough to 'compete' next to your English speaking classmates. Trust me Jacob, schools know and respect the fact that English is not your first language. They will work with you. The high school counselor can help take a way a lot of the fears that you are having. Please go in to see one....now is the time! yes

Wow, Larry! Your German is VERY good! I can't read it, but my brother is married to a girl with German roots and he speaks German too. He said me that your German is O.K.

Congrats! Thumbsup

lol, As I said, it's the one quote I remember, and it seemed to fit Jake's situation. I took Spanish and learned ASL too. Now I'm illiterate in four languages. Image hosted by servimg.com
