PostSubject: Very interesting....   Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:40 am

I mentioned this to Rob last night....a friend emailed me a link to this story....It's quite interesting. The gentleman who brought it to light believes that he has spotted a time traveler caught on film. It's a clip from 1928, part of the extras included on an old Charlie Chaplin film. I have to admit that it's very odd. It does look like she's talking to someone - even though it's obvious that nobody is with her....And she's holding her hand to her ear like she's using a cell phone....But going from "odd" to "Oh, this must be a time traveler" is a bit of a leap in conclusions.

It would be very interesting to find out what the explanation is. Wouldn't it be cool if it was actually a woman who was helping to develop the walkie-talkie, or something like that? It wasn't invented yet - but maybe she and another person were attempting to develop a prototype....I don't know...But it's rather mysterious, anyway.

Very good point in your second paragraph Savannah.

It is totally impossible that it could have been a time traveler on a cell phone. There is no way she could be talking to someone on the other end. How would the call go through with no cell phone towers?

I saw this last week. It does look like she's on a cell phone which is impossible. I'm sure there's a logical explanation that no one has come up with yet.

I'm sure there is, too. I'd really like to know what it is. (Maybe she's just a little bit loopy. Who knows. )

The point about cell phone towers was brought up in a debate about this, and those who believe she's a time traveler said that someone with the technological capability of time travel would most likely be advanced enough to circumvent the necessity of a cell phone tower. Sounds relatively reasonable - but, if they're that advanced, why would they still be using a cell phone-styled communication device? It isn't as if it would be to "blend in", because it wasn't even thought of yet, much less invented. So she certainly wasn't blending in with it. Wouldn't someone that technologically advanced have a communication device that wasn't hand-held, and didn't need to be held to the ear?

I love trying to figure out the possibilities.

(Oh, and Gin...I have posts that disappear now and then, too. I think I have some PMs that go missing, as well.)

I have a feeling the guy showing the clip from the movie took that one segment and had friends re-do it and added it in (the black and white film looks too NEW for me..........I would almost want to see the movie from the beginning to see if it is really there or if this guy altered it any....you never know these days.....technology is SO advanced...... scratchead

It's on all of the DVD sets, though. He'd have had to find the master copy before it was mass distributed and then replace is with his altered version without anyone noticing. (Though I suppose that's possible.) It isn't actually part of the movie. It's in the extras in the DVD set. It may look newer because it wasn't part of the movie, and so didn't get played as much when it was on film.

It may turn out to be something like that, though....Even if *he* didn't alter the original copy - maybe somebody did, and he just happened to be the one to spot it.....VERY interesting, Rhonda....

This was on Yahoo last week, and someone suggested that perhaps she was shielding her face when she saw the camera. I think that is a plausible explanation.

Well, I think it was a radio and she was singing along or talking to someone up ahead of her. If that is a time traveler, she needs to stop in somewhere and get a makeover.

I thought about a transistor/hand held radio, too, Gin - but it wasn't invented for another 10 years.

Interesting, Lori....That's possible. But it does look like she's talking to someone. Maybe she's muttering angrily about the camera crew.

Well....how many of you have passed by someone who was talking and you thought they were talking to you and it was actually them talking to themselves.....many people have that illness, and perhaps she/he was ranting on about something and the camera caught them and they shielded their face out of embarrassment..... You know what? When I watched this footage last week, I thought it was very familiar. I showed it to my mother and she thought she had seen it before, too. We just can't think of where, though. I actually don't own that set of Chaplin's films. I never got around to getting it yet.

If I had seen that, I know she would've stood out to me mainly because she is kind of odd-looking. I almost think she is odd enough-looking to be a little creepy-looking. And it is very strange how she looks at the camera. At least I think so. She is just creepy to me.

Anyway, I am going to come out of the closet now. greenS I am a believer in a lot of paranormal things. Smile Having said that, I don't think it is time travel. I really don't believe in that (and watch! We are all wrong! Smile ). While it is very weird, I think the odds are greater it is NOT time travel. And I don't know why so many people think there really is a chance of that. I personally just think it is a woman who is a little off in the head and she is talking to herself. What she could be holding in her hand, I don't know. But unless you can see exactly what it is (because she is definitely holding something), you will never know what it is that she is talking to.

I saw on another site that someone said she was holding some kind of hearing aid. They even found a picture of what they were talking about (why they would know what a 1920's hearing aid looks like is beyond me), but if she were holding that, WHY WOULD SHE BE TALKING TO HERSELF THROUGH IT????

I just think she is an odd-looking woman who happens to be holding something and that is talking to herself. Smile

She never knew back in 1928, as she walked down the street minding her own business, that MILLIONS of people would one day be closely examining her every move - speculating about exactly what she was doing, and why she was doing it. So watch your step, people!

I think we're so used to seeing the image of people walking around talking cell phones that seeing an image of someone holding something close to their ear like that we would automatically think, "cell phone". Unless I'm blind, the picture is not clear enough to see what she is really holding. The time traveler theory is entertaining though. Laughing Personally, I think the dude watches too many Star Trek type shows and put way too much time and thought into this clip. laugh3

You know what? I have never seen a single episode of the show. Not ever. And, actually, that is a common question that I get asked. I assume that you are, right? Smile Whenever I get around to joining Netflix again, The X-Files was going to go on my list, anyway (I decided that when I join again I would focus on the TV shows that I have missed over the years rather than the movies - I actually got caught up to all of those). So, is it worth me watching the entire series? I hear it is pretty good.

Honestly? I kind of thought that when I looked at her. I just think she has such exaggerated looks, though.
