Computer down

I just wanted everyone to know that if anyone notices that I'm not on the computer much over the next few days, I had to put it in the shop...and it was TOTALLY MY FAULT!!!

We had a big storm come through on Monday and Tuesday and we got a lot of rain. Accompanying it was wind, thunder and, yep, folks, hard to believe...LIGHTNING! Stupid me...we had to go to town and get my son and I left my computer plugged in...or, it may have been Kilroy!

So, when I came back it was off. I turned it back on and the light flashed for a second and went back off. So, I think I blew something.

I'm going to take it to Seguin tonight and turn it into the shop. Hopefully, it won't be too expensive to fix.

O.K. I'm back up and running. I did pretty good. I turned my computer in Wed. night and got it back Thurs. afternoon. The modem and the power supply were damaged. It cost me $123. 00 to get it fixed. Glad I was missed.

Rhonda, I thought I had a surge protector on it. I'll have to ask David, but I thought it was what we had.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back!

Well, those little surge protectors that you get at Wal*Mart or wherever aren't the ones to get. My computer at work was on a bigger strip than those and it still got hit, so I purchased a HUGE powerful one. Did you lose any of your information due to the surge? I hope not. That's a hurful feeling, and I'd hate if you lost everything, along w/ having to pay for repairs.

It sounds like you're suprised to have gotten lightning, and I'm wondering why? You don't have to go into deep detail of where you live, but could you shed some light? I'm thinking if you're in the US, it could be southern California. :think: I know it doesn't often rain cats and dogs, but it does rain there at times.

Hey, LM! Nope, thank goodness, I didn't lose any info. Everything was intact. Now, last time my computer totally crashed, I did lose everything. That broke my heart.

No, I don't live in California. I live in southeast Texas, about an hour from San Antonio. We have gone thru long droughts and such and it has been awhile since we've had a good old fashioned storm. In fact, David said he almost tripped over a poodle on the front porch the next morning!

We had two days of serious rain with the wind and the lightning. All this week, in fact, we are due for drizzle some days and rain the others, clear thru Saturday. I had to go deliver the paper to the printers on Tuesday night and the rain didn't bother me; it was the lightning that worried me.

Normally I wouldn't gripe about the rain but the next stage of our remodeling is tearing up our tiny living room floor, replace the floor and then recarpet it. But, we can't do it in the rain (since we're going to go totally redneck and move our couches to our front porch while we're working) so we have to wait until we have some clear days.

This is where I am extremely thankful for my husband. He is a systems guy and he does daily backups of our data so this kind of thing doesn't happen. I told my father there was a good reason to marry a computer geek! :haha:
