Victor French on The Waltons Empty
PostSubject: Victor French on The Waltons   Victor French on The Waltons EmptySun Jun 12, 2011 6:28 pm

I just watched a season 2 episode of The Waltons (I didn't watch it when it first aired for some reason, so I'm just now discovering the series). This episode had a blacksmith named Curtis Norton, a neighbor of the Waltons. A boy from the local orphanage visited the Waltons for a week, and he had a hard time fitting in with the large family, but he took a liking to Curtis and his wife, who were unable to have children of their own. The Nortons ended up adopting the boy. I thought as the episode went on that there was something really familiar about Curtis, and then about halfway through it finally hit me -- Mr. Edwards! Without a beard! It just took me a while to recognize him without his beard. The Curtis character had a lot of traits in common with Mr. Edwards. I thought he did a good job playing the part.

I too when watching the episode didn't realize that it was Victor! His voice finally gave him away and I went, "That's Mr. Edwards!" and my mother went, "No it's not!"

I told her to close her eyes and listen and then she agreed with me. ~laughs~

Yep, he's on there. Victor was very much like his charactors. He will ALWAYS be Mr. Edwards though.

Some (perhaps all) of the episodes are on YouTube. I don't know for how long, however, as it's against YouTube's terms of service to post copyrighted material.

Even though it takes place some 60 years later, I've found that The Waltons is very similar to LHotP in a lot of ways -- most notably the wholesome values and importance of family life. Also, the central character of both shows is a writer and sometimes narrator looking back on earlier times.

Thanks for the advice, Jes!

And Patrick Loubatière, the French guy who wrote a bok about "Little House on the Prairie", noticed the same than you: a great similarity between LHOTP and "The Waltons". If so, it must be a great show! Smile

I like the episode when "Opie" from Andy Griffith is on there, even though it is a sad episode. I always have liked Ronny Howard in Andy Griffith, The Waltons, and Happy Days.

I was watching an episode of Bonanza the other day about a blind girl & her family were headed up into the mountains to see the grandpa & there was an accident. The parents were killed. The Cartwrights found her & were looking for a home for her. The family that was wanting to adopt her was headed by none other than "Doc Baker."

I've watched this epie...And you are right. It seems proved that there were basically the same timelines in "The Waltons" , "Little House", "Father Murphy" and "Highway to Heaven"... grinsmiley

I think I saw a Walton's episode recently about orphans..but not that one, I'll have to keep looking. I notice a lot of similar scripts on Bonanza and Waltons, but hey if they are good, why not? The last one had 2 orphans (brother and sister) from England during the war, staying at the Waltons, and one didn't talk, was in shock after the bombings, it reminded me of the show with the brothers at the orphanage on LHOP and no one wanted to adopt the younger one because he was mute (they both ended up talking at the end)

About 3 minutes in, you can see him in the episode..voice was always the same:

I love a quote from Victor French about Michael saving him from his past role of bad guys :
In a 1985 interview with TV Guide, French credited Landon with rescuing him from "20 years of playing killers, rapists and every kind of villain and pervert known to man."

He joked that "it had gotten to the point where crowds parted when they saw me coming."

(Landon declined Thursday to comment on his friend's death, as he had when "Bonanza" patriarch Lorne Greene died, saying through his publicist that he does not feel such comments are proper.)

When Victor appeared on Bonanza, he didn't have a beard. He had a moustache, but no beard.

Thanks, I think I remember him glaring at Richard Gere but don't remember if he was mean.
I like him as the big "teddy bear" best. : )
