I'm too upset

Well, I just got done with my yoga medics, today. For 40 minutes. My yoga teacher told my mom & I, that my doctor (PM&R doctor) doesn't think, I should do massage therapy. I should get out more. Going to places. I'm not active person. I been this my whole life. I was looking forward to massage therapy once week. So, my case manger, yoga teacher, & my doctor suggest, I go to yoga studio. I really don't want to go. But, I told my yoga teacher. I will visit the yoga studio. Once week. Just makes me so mad. I know, my pain won't go away. Will be there rest of my life. Until I died, go to Heaven. I know massage therapy has work. I got it done in the pass. If, the massage therapy wasn't so expense. I will just go to one. Paid it for myself. Wouldn't care, what doctors says.

The reason, I'm in pain. Is my back & right hip pain. I was in car accident, back in 1993. I had 5 hip surgeries through out my life. Since, I was 11 years old. My last hi surgery was hip fusion. My hip bone is fused to my lower backbone. I can't bend/squat down. this last hip surgery made it worse instead of better. If, I didn't had this hip fusion. I will be riding my bike around in our neighborhood. I used to love riding my bike. Now, I can't ride a bike. I missed it so much. I have very limited of what to do. I have hard going up & down the stairs, running, walking long distances, & etc...


I wish, my doctor, case manger, will listen to me. It's my body. not theirs. It's my life, not theirs. Why, are they controlling how I lived? Should be my choice, how I lived.

I'm just too upset, to say anything else right now.

Aw, I'm so sorry, Buttercup. Did the doctor say why he thinks it's a bad idea for you to do massage therapy?

@Vanesa Thanks, Vanesa. I should, do what I want to do. I don't know, who go to for massage therapy for free or cheaper price. Their not cheap. I'm not sure, if they will say, I need a doctors script for one. We have told him, in the pass for massage therapy. He denied this few years ago. Maybe someday, I will get a massage therapy in the future.

Buttercup, have you explained all this to your doctor? He has to understand that you know best what your body can or can't do.

Why did they need to do a hip fusion anyway?

I tried explain this to him. But, he doesn't listen. I dont see him until Dec. 15th. Maybe, when I go. I'll explain to him, what body can do or not to do.

My other doctor. Suggest, I have hip fusion. Cause, he says will easy my pain. Didn't ease my pain. Made it worse. We really didn't know much about hip fusion. He thought, will be good idea. I'm too young for hip replacement. I'm in worse pain now, than before.

Even though you're young, you could have hip replacement, couldn't you?

I'm so sorry to hear that, Buttercup. Do you think the doctor might be willing to prescribe the massage therapy as long as you've agreed to go to the yoga? It seems like it would be a good thing for you. Maybe your mom could speak with the doctor as well - and if he hears from both of you about the good that the massage therapy does for you, maybe he'd listen. If not, maybe you could start looking for a new doctor. I know that's a scary prospect, but you need a doctor who will listen to you and what you need. You'll be in my prayers.

Edited to add - I agree with Rob. Your age shouldn't be a factor if the surgery is a necessity. A second opinion might be something to look into.

I'm so sorry about this Buttercup, and about the pain you're in. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thanks everyone for your prayers. When, December comes. I'm going ask why, he won't describe massage therapy. Tell him, what kind of pain, I'm in.

That seems like warped thinking, to me. So what if you need to replace it again? If it gives you the next 20 years of health, then it's worth doing it twice! Honestly Buttercup, I think you need to pursue this option and get a second opinion. And a third. Massage therapy may be helpful, but it's not getting to the root of the problem. Treat the root of the problem and it could be like finding a miracle.

I think Amy is absolutely right, Buttercup. The doctor's job is to improve your quality of life now, not 25 years down the road. Who knows if any of us will even be here in 25 years! You deserve to feel good now.

Exactly! There a ton of incompetent doctors out there, Buttercup....I'm finding that out with dealing with health problems with mom. It's very frustrating to try to find the ones who know who they're talking about, but I promise you, in the long run the hunt will be worth it! And sometimes you have to come right out with it with doctors....be 'no nonsense' about it and say, "I want a hip replacement NOW, and I need a referral to an orthopedic surgeon." If that doctor won't give you one, then time to move on to the next, and the next, until you get someone who will. We have to be advocates for our own health care, because THEY certainly aren't going to be! Hope you'll consider this, Buttercup. Once you get your hip replacement and recover from that, then you can get out there and really enjoy the active lifestyle the doctor is suggesting for you. Right now, it sounds like he or she is placing an unrealistic expectation on you.

Well, we found a massage therapy. I don't need a script to get massage therapy. We can paid for it, with our own pocket. So, where going sometime next week.

I will mention hip replacement. If, he says no. I will ask him why. My next visit in Dec. I did mention to my mom a different doctor. But, she says, to stick with him. Until he retires or passed away. I'm sure, if my current PM&R doctor, won't do it. I will get a second opinion. (Not the doctor, who did the hip fusion surgery either.) Cause, we mention about hip replacement. He said no. I was too young. Their has be a doctor out there. Who listen to us. Willing to do the hip replacement surgery or know what other remedies will ease my pain. Cause, right now. I'm on medication. I'm avoiding the heavy pain medication. I don't want be addicted to heavy medication. I know some doctors out there. Don't care, about you. There like here, take this heavy pain medication.

Would you be able to talk to your doctor before December to find out his reasons for not wanting you to get a hip replacement? I think you're right to get a second opinion if he doesn't give you the answer you want. Remember, your doctor is working for you.

No, he's kind of doctor. To see his patients in person. Face to face. Tell your problems to him.

Since cold weather is coming soon. The cold weather makes my right hip & lower back worse. I have arthritis in my right hip. Any of changing of weather. It's worse. Rain, snow, cold weather, and thunderstorms.

Glad you found a massage therapist, Buttercup! But I'm sorry your mom wants to stick with this doctor. Sometimes the older doctors are too set in their ways and don't want to look for alternatives. And like you said, they just want to give out the next painkiller. They make MONEY off that. Glad you're not going down that road. And like Savannah's parents, MY parents just left their doctor (an MD) after many years with him (and older man), but they realized that he wasn't really helping them at all, since he was just giving my mom drug after drug. Now they go to my doctor, a D.O. (they are generally more open minded), and they are finally getting the help they need. #1 thing is that the D.O. is getting her off 80% of her drugs. As Rob said, your doctor is supposed to be working FOR you. I wish your mom could see that staying with the 'same old same old' is not doing you a BIT of good in the long run.

I do truly hope the massage therapy brings you some relief though....just keep on pushing for that hip replacement! It's tough to stand up and be heard out there in the medical field, but I have no doubt that you will be glad you did if you pursue this.

So sorry you are suffering so much. Would water therapy make a difference? I know alot of people do that when they can't move around as easily doing other things. The water helps you go slower.
I know this has you very depressed and my heart goes out to you. I wish I knew the answer to help, but I know prayer does. I will add you to my prayer list.

I'm going pool therapy. We're starting go back to the pool. Since, the kids are back in school. Will be less people @ the pool.
