I got Nels, too. But being Willie would be okay also....he turned out real nice in the long run. Even Nellie did, too. And I still think Harriet is not as evil as she sometimes seems....I think she is actually vulnerable deep down. But I don't see any redeeming virtues in Nancy.....maybe if the series had lasted?

Yes. Poor Nancy. She seems to be rather psychopatic. Really EVIL, not just natsy as Nelie was. I like her character in the show, since it puts some "salt" into the episodes, but she would have been an unbearable creature if she had lived in real life... greenS

I think I would give her more of a break if I did not know her background as an orphan, assume previous abuse, etc. But didn't they somewhere even say something about her background which made it seem that she was nasty even before she was taken to the orphanage? However, maybe I do need to give her a break because if both her parents died and she had no siblings, maybe her attention-seeking behavior grew from that.

If I remember correctly, Nancy was the one who said that she'd been abused. She told Harriet a very sad, horrible tale of the abuse she'd suffered, and got out of trouble at school that way. But then Harriet found out that she'd been raised by a doting grandmother. That's what I recall - but, I haven't seen the Nancy episodes in a LONG time, so I could be wrong.
