We had a lot of rain last night, now today it's beautiful and sunny out. I wasn't ready for more snow yet! LOL.

We had to travel to the western side of the state to see some snow. My in-laws live near Grand Rapids and they got about 4 inches of fresh snow on Friday. We went there yesterday (Saturday) to celebrate Christmas with them. Driving home today, we got some snow here, it's just enough to cover the ground now. I'm not sure how much we're supposed to get.

We're supposed to get 4-8 inches overnight. It's snowing very lightly now, but it was snowing a lot harder earlier and is supposed to pick up later and then again by early morning to make the commute a real nasty one.

Pam, my hubby commutes to Grand Rapids every day, so I know what you're talking about! That lake effect is not fun either.

Not sure about snowfall coming, but I do know we'll be getting some arctic air coming this week! We've been pretty lucky lately with decent temperatures here in Michigan, so I knew it was just a matter of time! I'm sure Rob will have it even colder though, so I shouldn't complain!

We're in the midst of another Winter Storm Warning tonight. Supposed to get up to a foot of snow. I'm hoping it comes AFTER I get home tonight. I'm heading out in a few minutes to go to a party. It's my kind of fun: Food, friends, games, and lots of laughter. It isn't terribly far to travel, either. I have to work early in the morning, so I can't stay out toooooo late....... so I'll welcome the snow after . .. . . . oh, maybe ten o'clock. grinsmiley

PostSubject: Snow Day!   Fri Feb 01, 2008 1:27 pm

...more like 'ice day', really. It's been hailing and snowing on and off since around 5 this morning. When I woke up a little before 7, I knew there was no way I could get down to work - it didn't even look like I could leave the driveway! I called upstairs and my parents weren't attempting to go anywhere either. So, I called off from work. This always makes me feel guilty, but today especially so b/c I think I'm the only member of my department that didn't make it in Blue My boss feels that if he can get into work, everyone should be there too. I want to say, maybe if I had a nice big truck like you and not a dinky old car I'd be able to get there safely too! It's just frustrating, and I know my manager will guilt-trip me with having to "first of the month" reports instead of me when I get back on Monday, so I'm dreading that too. Blue Am I the only one who worries like this when I miss a day, even when it's out of my control?

:alright: It's pretty bad when you have a snow day and can't enjoy it, isn't it. But it isn't worth risking your life. Our roads here are ice covered again, with a layer of snow on top . . . . so I know what you mean! Try to enjoy the day, and not think about tomorrow. (I know that that's a lot easier said than done!) But worrying won't change anything for the better, and it wreaks havoc on your health. {{{Christina}}}

I think it's normal to feel a little guilty when you're thinking of other people being at work and having to do some of your load too. But it's not worth of the risk of getting into an accident and possibly getting hurt, or worse. If your boss wants to put himself at risk, that's on him. He shouldn't expect others to follow suit as well. Plus, you know there will be days when your co-workers have to miss and you'll have their load to work on as well. It works both ways. I do hope you were able to enjoy your day after all, without the guilt. I think you did the right thing.

Christina... try to enjoy your day. Don't worry about it.... just deal with it on Monday and like you said, you have a perfect excuse for staying home today. So just relax, pretend that doesn't matter for today.....

Your boss needs to realize that it's better that you miss this day of work than to miss the rest of the days for possibly getting into an accident for trying to drive on those roads...

So... take your shoes off, put some slippers on, put your feet up and enjoy a hot beverage (preferibably hot chocolate with marshmellows) Wave

Thanks ladies :) I'm trying not to think about work and Carol, I just had some hot tea, but hot chocolate sounds even better, I'll have to make some later grinsmiley I'd by lying if I didn't admit that it's been nice to have some time during the day to play on the prairie, and also get some of my schoolwork done that I otherwise would've had to do over the weekend. grinsmiley

Aww, I feel so sorry for you all Jake. Make sure you stay nice in toasty inside if you don't have to go out. Hopefully it will get better by the time you have to go back to school.
