Kara

Please pray for Kara. She has had pain in her hands almost since she started college. She had an MRI done last week, and she has ganglion cysts. She will probably be having surgery when she comes home at Christmas. She hasn't been able to play the piano in months which is hard since she is a piano pedagogy major right now. I think she has still been able to play flute occasionally. Piccolo doesn't bother too much. She told me last night that she is thinking of changing her major to psychology which would mean she would lose her music scholarship. I'm sure some of it is due to her hands, so we told her not to change anything right now. She needs to get her hands taken care of first and see how things go.

Oooo, my Daddy had those......He was in his doctor's office and the doctor was discussing treatments for it, went to the book case and got this HUGE thick book.....Daddy thought he was going to open it up and read something to him......instead, he took the book, told my Daddy to put his hand on the desk, then he WHACKED his hand with the book!!! It smashed the cyst and I don't think he has had problems since......

Oh my. I can see why you're worried about Kara, for more reasons than one. Well, tell her not to make ANY decisions until her hands are healed up from the surgery. Perhaps she'll be better than she thinks. So sorry she is going through this. College is stressful enough without something like this interfering! I'll be praying for her.

I've never heard of this kind of "treatment" before, Rhonda!!!

wow...hope things get better soon. My Nathan would go crazy if he couldn't play his trumpet or piano. He is a music major too.

Thanks for the prayers. She emailed Gary her schedule for next semester, and she had music classes so she listened to us and didn't change her major yet. I agree, Amy, that she shouldn't do anything until after her hands are better. That's an interesting cure, Rhonda. I'm sure there are plenty of heavy textbooks at her college.

I'm sure there are are plenty of heavy books there, just make sure there is a trained and experienced physician holding it and doing the treatment...

I'll be praying for her too, Lori. I've had them, and they went away on their own, so it would be nice if that is the case for her too.

Oh, that just sounds so miserable. She is in my prayers and I hope this surgery provides her with the relief she needs.

Thanks for the prayers. She hasn't said much lately. We're trying to figure out why she wants to change her major. She has wanted to be a music therapist for a while, and now all of the sudden she doesn't think she can do it. We are wondering if her piano professor has said something to her. Hopefully she will open up soon. At least we will be seeing her in a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving, so hopefully we can discuss things then.

Poor kid.hope things will turn out ok.

The doctor in Ohio didn't want to do anything. He told her to see someone here over Christmas break. Hopefully they can do something minor over break so that she doesn't have any pain. She will probably need surgery in the summer to fix a tendon that flops over her knuckle.

That's too bad. She'll be in my prayers.

I hope she can get some help over break here in Michigan! Keep us posted. Poor Kara!

She is in my prayers, and I'm sure that when other doctors would examine her, things will be O.K. THings seems to be bad right now, but maybe they aren't SO bad.

Well, after seeing 4 doctors, Kara finally found one who would do something about her hands. She said this last one really checked her hands out more thoroughly than the others. She will be having surgery on Monday morning in Ohio. It sounds like it is going to take a while. She is scheduled for 7:30 AM (she has to be there at 5:30) and is supposed to be out of recovery around 1:30 PM, according to the nurse who called today. Hopefully her hands will feel better after this. At least is won't affect her major, since she switched to psychology at the beginning of this semester. She does need to make up a couple of incompletes for private lessons, though, since she is a music minor. The professor know about her surgery, though, and said it would be ok to extend the time to make up the incompletes. Please pray that everything will go well and that she won't have any more pain when her hands are healed.

Praying for full and fast recovery.....
