Here's an interesting site. It tells the meanings and background stories about hundreds of songs...

Thanks for sharing. I've added it to my favorites. I was disappointed that "Wildfire" wasn't on the site. I love the song, but not exactly sure of if the girl and the horse both die and how. "She ran calling Wildfire..."

I always thought that only the girl died, and that Wildfire busted down his stall to roam the land and search for her. But I'm not sure.

At the risk of nitpicking, there's one line that seems like a blooper: "By the dark of the moon I planted, but there came an early snow." I'm assuming most farmers plant in April or May, so if it snowed after that, wouldn't it be a late snow? But then that would kind of screw up the rhythm of the line, cuz it's one syllable short.

Well Rob, there is also a fall planting...so perhaps he was planting his fall garden, by the dark of the moon, fall of the year. Many farmers follow the Farmers Almanac and the dark of the moon is probably a moon phase that they watched for before planting this time of the year and perhaps this time, the almanac was wrong and that is when the early snow came...........

Ah! I never thought of that. As a northern person, the idea of a fall planting never occured to me. Our growing seasons lasts from about late May to early October, and that's the end of it.

And here I always thought that "Hotel California" had to do with Anton Lavey and his church.
