I think the older Carrie did fine. She didn't have many parts but she did what was expected of her character. The real life Carrie was a newpaper woman. She ran her own newspaper and owned her own land. Nothing timid about her at all.
I didn't know that.how cool.

She married a man that helped determine where the faces of the US Presidents would be put......he helped pick the mountain that would soon be known as Mount Rushmore.....Carrie and I share the same birthday.....

I have met the twins who played Carrie and although they may not have been a great actress in some people's opinion, they are both doing well in the careers that they chose for themselves. Maybe it just wasn't their thing. I think they did a great job.
What I thought was odd was that Carrie had better lines earlier...they were cute then, but some of her older lines were infantile...the writers didn't have her grow with her age. I had heard she was a little slow but maybe not with the information above. They never really discussed her schoolwork or had her interact very much with extras at school. Grace was too little but you could see it would be the same with her if the show stayed on.
Yeah, I hope this doesn't sound mean...but it took me watching Country Girls a couple times I figure out she said, "I want a new dress Mama, Daddy." In that scene where Ma has just made Laura and Mary the blue dresses.
I just watched this episode- she said "I want a new dress for my dolly".
