God's Will - Caroline Ingalls Empty
PostSubject: God's Will - Caroline Ingalls   God's Will - Caroline Ingalls EmptyFri Jan 09, 2009 7:06 am

This is a very short story I wrote for a school project. It comes from one of my favourite episodes I Do Again and describes how Caroline felt on her way home while she had just visited Docter Baker who told her that she was going through the change...

This story is based on The Little House On The Prairie books, by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Little House On The Prairie television series of NBC. I do not own any of these characters or stories.

God’s Will

A million thoughts crossed her mind while Caroline was on her way home. For a couple of days she had been sure that she was pregnant, she could feel the child growing inside of her and she had even had morning sickness three or four times this week. To make sure everything was alright with her—and the baby—she had visited Doctor Baker. But he did not tell her what she wanted to hear. After the doctor had examined her, he had asked her to sit down. Then Caroline got a little worried. Would there be anything wrong with the baby?

Doctor Baker told her that she was in good health but there was not going to be any baby; she was not pregnant. Caroline could not believe him, she had been as sure as she could ever be—it had already been two months since her last cycle—she just had to be pregnant. Caroline could not help crying while she heard Doctor Baker telling her that she was right about her cycle, because that was the last cycle she would ever have.

Caroline had been married to Charles for a long time now and they already had four beautiful daughters. There was only one thing in the world she wanted now and that was to give Charles a son. Once they had had a little baby boy, Freddy, but he had passed away and they never really knew what had caused his death. When Caroline found out that she was pregnant again she was positive that it was going to be a boy, the boy Charles had always had wanted. Now Doctor Baker was telling her that she could never have children anymore.

It felt like the world collapsed in front of her. Knowing that she was not able to bear children anymore, what would she be to Charles than some ‘nothing’, how could he ever see her again as a whole woman. Caroline knew that Charles loved her, and she loved him more than anything in the world. However, she could not face telling him, not yet.

You are a great storyteller, Elise...and reading your fiction, I can remember very well Caroline's facial expressions when listen the "sad" news Doc Baker broke to her. Well done! Thumbsup

Vanesa.
