Is anyone watching this show??????
Here is a trailer:
I have only seen 2 episodes of this show. One of the things that shocked in in last night's episode is that the 20 year old Rebecca (blonde girl) has fake teeth... what could have happened to this girl that she has to have dentures at such a young age?? The other 2 girls were having a good "fun" time making fun of that fact and wanting to hide her teeth... so sad, didn't expect those 2 girls to be so mean.
No wonder I don't watch television. Reality TV stinks.
Yeah,I agree. I know i said the show looks instersting. But i must say I'm kind of shocked the Amish would agree with doing a t.V show.Seems out of there character.
When Amish teens are in their running around years, they can do anything they chose. They must make a decision eventually about joining the church or face being shunned

It was just a matter of time before TLC bit off something like this. Why does this sound familiar? Was there another Amish reality show awhile back? Maybe I'm just thinking of a documentary or something. I have a feeling this will be a hit for them. (and I agree, Krissy...it seems odd that the Amish would agree to do a reality show. ). We don't get TLC anymore....we got rid of our Direct TV and just have the basic antenna channels and netflix streaming. We're saving a gazillion dollars doing this and I don't even miss it. There's so many TV series on netlix now! The only thing the guys miss is the History channel and Sci fi, and I miss my HGTV. ( Sorry, off topic! ).
I honestly find the subject matter quite interesting though...I can see how the appeal of the modern world has to be compelling for Amish teens.

I don't know if they ever had another Amish reality show, but maybe late last year or early this year, PBS showed a documentary about leaving the Amish. It was very good. I think 2 hours long. The only reason I know about it is because a local author friend of mine was interviewed for it along with her husband. I have her book here, Why I Left the Amish by Saloma Furlong, and I am dying to read it if I catch up on reviews.

I think i could understand the teens wanting to leave the amish lifestyle to join ours. I just finshed reading a book called. "Almost Amish" about a family who lives a simple life like the amish for the summer. The reason i said i thought it was a bit odd that the amish would agree to this is cause i know they don't alow having pictures taken of them..but i do have lots of respect for them and the way they live.

Thanks Debbie....might have to check it out!
Those books sound interesting, Cheryl & Krissy. And Cheryl, I'll bet it's the PBS documentary I'm thinking of, since I still get that channel. Love PBS.
But Carol, I guess it seems strange for her to have fake teeth already but i know lots of people who got Dentures at a Younger age then 20, My brother was 24 when he got his in most cases it is Lack of going to the dentist at a young age

I've tried to watch it but I can't take it too seriously. I don't know why, but the people on this show aggravate me. I think NatGeo's "Amish: Out of Order" is a much better show. They show the lives of the people who left the community and how everything is going for them. It is an interesting show. Whereas this one, I think, has given these people too much too fast (i.e. all of NYC) and naturally they are going to be more tempted to do "naughty" (for lack of a better word) things right away. I just can't understand why they would basically send these people, who have really not had any experience in a city before, to an extrememly city-like city. Do you know what I am saying? Am I making sense? I can't really think of the right words for it. But I think this whole experiment on TLC's part is silly. NatGeo's show is SO much better.
Besides, I REALLY do NOT like ANY of the people on "Breaking Amish". They really have some serious attitude problems. I just don't like them. They all seem so obnoxious. Especially the girls. For people who supposedly were living a sheltered life, they sure don't have the attitude of that lifestyle!
Has anyone seen "Meet the Hutterites" on NatGeo? Now, that is a show that I really like to watch.

I watch maybe 10 mins of Meet the Hutterites i was not impressed, I didn't care for all the words they used and i live very close to the Hutterites so maybe i have just gotten to know them a little to well over the years but from what i know them they are just like on the Show Yelling and Screaming

So they do yell and scream a lot, huh? Well, the language kind of surprised me to be honest. I didn't really expect that. But I like to see how the community gets along. And now I have gotten myself so invested in that show that I have to see what happens to the one girl, Claudia, now that she has decided to go to college. Yes, this is the life of a TV addict.
Speaking of the language, that is something that I think is ridiculous on "Breaking Amish". It is kind of like they are trying just too much to not be what they are. Know what I mean? It just seems silly to me. I'm sorry to keep using the word "silly", but that is all I can think of to describe it.

That was the show I was thinking bout, Jacob! Thanks for posting it. My son & I were in here watching it one night & he heard them cuss & he was like "dang!" For being in that sect they sure aren't shy about throwing around those words or using "modern" devices and such. And with that one woman, Bertha I think, going to get her hair colored & the other one, "Claudia (?)" her daughter, went to get her hair cut I think, that is frowned upon in the group.

Oh wow, that is young too. I just felt bad for this girl because her roomates were making fun of her for not having real teeth and hiding her dentures... talk about being mean!

Yeah. I guess they really wanted to shock them! I mean... even for me, being put in the middle of times square with all those lights could be a little shocking... well maybe not really LOL, but it could feel overwhelming, and you can imagine someone who has not used electricity, how they could feel.

I have just seen one episode of Breaking Amish. I completely agree with you, Miss Oleson. Amish: Out of Order is a much better show. The Breaking Amish seems fake. It looks like they've taken kids and tried to make them look Amish. I've seen several episodes of the Hutterite show and was definitely surprised by their language.
