Mosquito bites

Arghh. So I've been allergic to mozzie bites since I was a baby. Is thre a way to lessen the reaction?(other than to stop the cause haha=DEET) On occasion they can swell up to golf ball size ...

Benedryl will help with the itching.....but you need to stop before it happens....they say you can carry a dryer sheet in your pocket and it keeps them away...they don't like the smell of it......My kids called them "Skeeter Eaters" and hated them....the only time I didn't have problems with them was when I went through my chemo...they didn't like that taste either.....

YES...dryer sheet works Alex. Benedryl will help with the ones you have....and DONT SCRATCH!

Wow, I never knew about the dryer sheet trick. Last year in S. Carolina the mosquitoes just ate me alive. Can't wait to try this!

I didn't know that dryer sheets keep mosquitoes away. My problem is I have to use dryer sheets that are dye and scent free. I have sensitive skin. Scented dryer sheets plug me up.

Benedryl has a tendency to make you loopy and/or sleepy. I would say, either topical benedryl, clear calamine lotion or even meat tenderizer.

No, actually, some people have no reaction to mosquitoes whatsoever. My Dad is one of them. Others can swell up quite severely, with large, painful welts, or they can itch for several weeks from one bite. Minor itching is pretty common, but I would say that he defined it pretty well with "they can swell up to golf ball size". That's pretty indicative that he has a worse reaction than most people do.

Alex, there are a lot of herbal oils that are supposed to help to repel mosquitoes:

• Castor Oil
  
• Rosemary Oil
  
• Lemongrass Oil
  
• Cedar Oil
  
• Peppermint Oil
  
• Clove Oil
  
• Geranium Oil
  

Also, I don't know if this works or not, but one of my camping friends says that he kept a sheet of Bounce in his pocket and that he had much less trouble with mosquitoes this year.

I am going to let my niece know about those oils, Lisa. She's just like Alex---her mosquito bites can become like golf balls---they are very hard to the touch, too. She's 18 now, but when I used to care for her I would have to smother her with repellent and always felt SO awful for her especially when she was very young and didn't understand it. As far as I know, she is still bothered with this issue.

And speaking of mosquitoes, I had one in my house tonight. Isn't it a tad COLD for them?!?!

Don't be too sure... There are plenty in the Bronx for some bizarre reason.

My squallor kids come in swarming with bites from things that should be dead in winter...
