Painting Idea's

Hey I need help I wanna paint my Bedroom a different Color i really stink at Redecorating I have figured out what color to paint the Ceiling i want it Black & White Checkerboard Like in the Picture,
But i Don't really wanna paint the walls Black or White, I want something that doesn't Darken the Room to much and thats not depressing but that also Looks good with the Ceiling
Anyone have any Idea's?

hmmm you might need to do a "diner" theme. I just drew a diner scene for my son's g/friend. If you look that up online you will notice that they usually have a really bright color with the black and white. How about a teal...or blue color. Calming yet it will pop!

This was showing a bright pink with it. Of course can't do that when drawing with graphite.

Paint 3 of the walls white and the fourth one red! That will be your accent wall.....it is bright and cheery.....and red ALWAYS goes with black and white.....

I think most colors would go with black and white. I was thinking a blue that is not too dark would be nice.

What's wrong with good 'ol white with some cool posters/art on the walls? Make one wall a bookshelf. Tear out another wall and make your room a drive-in. Show movies. Sell popcorn.
Seriously, don't do that. My mom got really mad when I did it.

Oh, I like Rhonda's idea of red. Of course, it is my favorite color.

But seriously Joe, I do like your idea of painting it a nice bright white and using LARGE black poster frames and going all out with the colors/designs of the posters.

People often ignore ceilings, so good for you Jacob, thinking out of the box! I did our basement (the man cave ) in a medieval theme, and wallpapered our ceiling to look like stone. Yep, that's right, I'm a regular Michaelangelo! I'll tell you what...I got a 1/4 of the way through it and thought, "What in the heck was I thinking?!" My neck was killing me! But it was definitely worth it in the long run and I could not have truly pulled off this medieval/dungeon type look had I left the ceiling white.

I am with Rhonda...I like the idea of the red with the black, but I would paint the whole thing red and just use art work to break up all the color. Another color I can see is a bright bumble bee yellow. Would be really sharp with the black and white accents. Going with a medieval idea, you could go with a royal purple color (which is the color of royalty) and do a cool 'Renaissance' theme. People often think 'feminine' with purple, but it doesn't have to be if it's done right. You could add something like this coat of arms to make it masculine:



And medieval flags and banners:




Don't mind me...I tend to get a little carried away when the conversation turns to decorating.

Whatever you go with, my suggestion is that if you don't go with white, it should be a BRIGHT color. Pick a color, any color, but to do justice to the black and white ceiling, it needs to be a bright hue. Just remember, the more saturated the color, the more coats you need to apply. So if you're looking for a cheaper way out, go white. Or just do an accent wall, like Rhonda suggested.

Finally Done with Painting Thanks again for all your Suggestions I ended up going with something Different, Seems like no one says it looks nice they all walk in and say OH thats Different lol but I just Love it, Please give me your Honest Opinion about it i would love to hear it

Jacob, that looks awesome!! Seriously, I love it! I think once you get things on the walls people will like it. It's always hard to judge a room when it's empty. Gosh, that must have taken forever to do that ceiling! I am proud of you!!

WOW! Jacob, you did an awesome job with that! The ceiling alone had to have been a huge undertaking. I agree with Amy - when you get the furniture in the room, and things on the walls, I think people will see how cool it looks.

Yep. And orange is a really 'hip' and 'young' color....if these were older people looking at your room they just don't 'get it'.
