I used to love Maude, but it seems a bit more dated than others of that time...maybe because they had so many political and social issues in every episode. I still love Bea Arthur in Golden Girls the most...watching that now as a matter of fact. I've heard some jokes many times, but I still laugh.
I can't stand other TV today, all reality shows, that aren't really "reality" and bad news. If it wasn't for the stations with older shows and AE, TNT, Food Channel, I'd be like LHOP and do without. ; )

Ha! Yeah, that's the problem with shows when they try to be topical. The jokes don't fly too well a couple decades down the road. Like when the Golden Girls mention Gary Hart or Jessica Hahn... I can hear a whole generation of viewers saying, "Who?"

LOL, that's true...I get things my daughter's don't, or the President they mention, not by name, is just assumed and you're trying to figure out who it was.
All in the Family was dated too, but it didn't seem as much because basically they were a lower working class family with everyday issues. They didn't have dated "yellow or green" kitchens of the 70's and Edith and Archie's wardrobe were basic, bland clothes...Gloria though went through a LOT of changes...
High taxes, corrupt politicians, some things though are unfortunately timeless.

Maude was a great show. I was very young when the show was on the air, but I enjoyed watching the reruns later on. I love Bea Arthur. I thought she was fabulous on both 'Maude' and 'Golden Girls.' I don't know which role I like her in best, as they were both very different.
I agree about classic television being so much better than todays shows. I also remember TV theme songs. Those were always fun! I actually have the "Television's Greatest Hits of the 70's & 80's" CD. It's really fun to listen to once in a while (haven't heard it in a long time though). The 'Maude' theme is in there, so is the LHOTP theme. Do you know how funny it is to hear the "All in the Family" theme in your car? That, and "The Jeffersons!"
I have to find that CD now...

The 'Growing Pains' and "MTM' themes aren't on the CD (although I wish they were). The 'Cheers' one is though!

Awesome, Dave! Thanks for posting!
Oh, the "Kotter" theme is also on the CD. That song was actually a very big hit back in the 70's. It even went to #1. I think I remember hearing the 'Happy Days' tune on the radio when I was a kid.
I think the last TV theme song we had was from 'Friends' (I'll be there for you). Another hit single!
I remember back in junior high (or middle school, for you young-uns), our chorus class actually had to perform the 'Laverne & Shirley' theme...with choreography! God I hope there's no video of that lying around somewhere in the school archives!
Man I'm babbling this morning! Must be the Dunkin Donuts coffee!

Yup, Gilmore's is a good one! I actually started watching that show BECAUSE of the song. I was flipping through the TV channels one night, and all of a sudden I heard this Carole King song I hadn't heard since I was a kid. Before long, I was hooked on the show.

What I didn't like about Maude, is that everyone always seemed to be yelling all the time..sure Archie yelled, but it wasn't a constant thing.
Bea Arthur was supposedly very shy...you'd never know it watching her act. She was always very good.
